Shot my .445SuperMag Good/Bad News
« on: December 22, 2002, 01:40:55 PM »
The good news is......my scope is still on barrel the T'SOB is great, and I had fun shooting the 445.Bad news is....I had a hard time getting any groups @25yrds because, after one shot from the 445 SuperMag with a 240gr XTP the target (paper plate) was gone..blown in half. I moved out to 50yrds and was ok paper plate still together  3@50yrds=0.435 I am very happy with the groups but, the 240XTP's are just to lite next I'll try some 300grXTP's or flat points.

Try a 300-310 hard cast with a gas check or a  300 Speer. The 265 grain was designed for the .444 and you are approching the velocities of it.  Might work.  Sorry but I do not like the XTP's.  :bye:

One bad experience and I think that it taints some of our opinions.  Maybe for light game like deer and chipmunks they are alright. I had one blow up on me in a moose and put lead and cooper all through the meat.  Taints the taste of the meat. I know GB likes em! But my dog is bigger than those bama deer.

I have changed my allegance to 300 grain hard cast with gas checks. One big hole in and one out. No hollow point to mess up, fill with hair or worry about expanding.  Just removes one piece of the puzzle about what went wrong.

I am sure to take some abuse here on my opinion. So I am going to go hunting for a few days. :D

I don't know how well it will do on game, but I have gotten excellent accuracy from the 300gr Sierra JFP in 44mag and 444 marlin. KN

check out BBT bullets, i think there's a link here. i havn't used it but billy marr has a really good lookin 300gr hard cast bullet with a gas check. that would minimize leading of the barrel.
