Adding screw-in chokes?
« on: March 01, 2010, 07:42:54 PM »
I've read a few different places about adding screw in chokes to a NEF/H&R 20 ga barrel.  Has anyone done it?  Do I need to get a certain choke to start with or will any barrel lend itself to being modified to hold screw-in chokes?  How do they pattern?

There is different choke systems made to be used with different barrel wall thicknesses. Your smith will know what is best and they pattern according to the choke you pick. I like them alot.

kingj,

How much did it cost you to have done.  I see a few places online asking $70-80

I just called a smith who is local to me and was quoted $80 to install winchoke style tubes. That price includes 1 tube.

I don't suppose that price is too bad.  It cost $50 to rent the tooling.  A choke tube will cost another $15.  Then there is the chance that your going to screw up.
