Taurus TCP Model 738 .380 Review
« on: March 02, 2010, 04:54:28 AM »
Just purchased my model 738 on Saturday and took it out to the range on sunday. Digested everything I put in it, including jacketed hollow points. Firing recoil was comfortable and I have extra large hands. Came with two magazines, case, and lock keys.

Mine has the stainless steel slide. It's very light and very smooth. I like the fact that it locks the slide back after the last round, and also has a chambered round indicator that sticks out slightly near the ejector so that even in the dark you can tell whether there's a round chambered by feel.

I shot the pistol at 7 yards and easily put all 7 rounds in a 3 1/2 circle. It does not have much for sights, but even without them, I was able to point shoot and be very accurate. More than enough for personal defense situations...I have examined the Keltecs and Ruger and I like this one better...It has a better finish and just well executed. I paid right around $350 out the door.

Let me add that the Taurus comes in a 9.2 ounces, and about the physical size of a Ruger or a Keltec.

The most recent American Rifleman had a review of several .380 caliber sem-auto pocket pistols by Wiley Clapp.  He gave the Taurus a clean review citing both the reliability and purchase price.  I checked with one of our local gun shops.  They had both the Taurus and the .380 Ruger for sale....price $324.95.  I was quite impressed with the Taurus and will try to work one into my budget.

I just picked up a stainless TCP this morning, bass pro had them for $319 and the LCP for 329 for blued and 349 for the olive drab after spending several minutes looking at them both in person I decided that I prefer the look and feel of the TCP so it came home with me along with several boxes of ammo. I will be heading to the country this afternoon to test it out if it doesnt rain.

The rain held off and I got to put 90 rounds through my new tcp it ran flawlessly shot 50 of Remington FMJ and 40 of Winchester 95 grn HP PDX1. Had no problem hitting a coke can at seven yards and a 8" paper plate at 15 now I just need to find a good wallet holster. I have never shot the LCP or the kel tec but I would reccommend the TCP to anyone looking for a good pocket pistol.

Does anyone have any comments on the long term performance of this gun? Do you all still own it? This gun has been calling to me for a long time and now I have found it for a great price and just want to get some last moment comments.

You've got my interest too; been looking for an LCP but the price just keeps escalating here and they are gone right away.

Anybody at all using this gun? Sure would be nice to get some recent insight from a user.
