Scope for a Super Redhawk in Target Grey?
« on: March 03, 2010, 12:59:31 AM »
Which scope functions and looks good on a Redhawk in Target Grey?  I figured someone has one in .454 Casull or .480 Ruger here.  This will be my first big bore pistol(.480 Ruger) as previously I have been limited to .357.  Anyway, I am excited, it will be here Friday for pick up, and want to scope it as soon as I can.  Bushnell, Burris, Leupold, Nikon, Swift, Weaver, Redfield...silver, blue, matte black, nickel, too many options.

Thanks for your help.

What are you going to do with the gun? what range do you plan to shoot at?
As far as finish I have tried several and think that the matte black looks the best.
I put a TC scope on my first 454 SRH just to see if it was in fact recoil proof.. yes it passed the informal test. Burris or Leupy  are my choice for handgun scopes.

I have a Leupold 2,5-8 and a 2x on my SRH.

I prefer 2x.

Thanks guys.
I plan to deer hunt ultimately.  But until next season, I plan to use it at the range.
Thanks again.

I would recomand the 2X Leupold. I have several scoped handguns, 2 with the 2 1/2 x 8 Leupolds on them, but I find when hunting you never want to carry it on more than the 2 1/2 x and I have never need to turn it up for the longer shots. The 8X setting is great for target shooting from the bench, but that`s all. I have taken deer at 135 yrds. with iron sights and can tell you that 2X will out range a handgun.

Having watched a friend go nuts trying to match scope, rings and stainless rifle.
No two companies have anything that will get all three to match.
I would suggest going with basic flat black (matte) for annything that is not Ruger target grey.
As far as the size of the scope.  I guess that depends on what you are looking to shoot and from where.
Off hand go as low as possible, off a bench or from a rest in a stand then varible power would be good.
And of course the farther you shoot the more power you may want to have.
You may also want ot go RED dot.  and just have a red dot out there.

Here is 2 pic. of my SRH 480 Ruger with a Weaver 2x gloss finish on top. This is my go to deer gun and this combo seems to work well. I put two deer down with it this yr. using a 325gr. XTP and H110.

Very nice!   Picked the gun up Friday.  Then snagged a Bushnell Trophy in Matte Black from a member on here.  I can't wait for it to get here.  I hope it looks as good as yours mounted.  Went to the gun show this weekend, grabbed a perfect shoulder holster.  I'll be chopping at the bits this coming season to put some meat on the table with it.
