C&R Handguns
« on: November 11, 2003, 01:07:09 AM »
I just pickup a few C&R handguns a chinese norinco 9mm, a russian tokarev 7.62x25 and a CZ52.  I also have stayed away from surplus ammo I just bought some Sellier & Bellot 7.62x25 and some Wolf 9MM.   I changed the barrel on the Tok because it was slightly pitted from corrosive ammo.  Numrich had the replacement chrome lined barrels for $30 each.  I saved the orginal barrel because it is serial numbered to the gun so if I ever sold it, it may be a plus to the buyer if he is a collector.  I don't know how anyone can neglect to clean these guns after shooting corrosive ammo.  Its easy to soak the barrel after shooting it?  I haven't shot any of these yet but I look forward to it.          BigBill

S&B is all I shoot. I can't bring myself to buy or trust surplus ammo. Got get me a TT33 Tok one of thes days. I love my 3 CZ52's! Some people are just lazy, or don't realize what corrosive ammo can do in a short period of time.

Since I'm retired early at 53 and have a carb cleaning system sitting here(5 gallon buckets/basket) left over from my motorcycle restoring days I can just strip the gun when i get home and soak it?  Heck even a coffee can with kerosene can make a cheap soak tank??  How much easier can it get??  Most of these guns look new and the barrels are pitted because they were miss treated most likely because there cheap surplus guns.  In a few more years just try to replace them?  The russian tok's are becoming scarce now??                                  BigBill

Of course you have to change the kerosene often and that may be tough on some too??

Yep, all excellent ideas...glad there are guys out there like you keeping the old guns nice! We really don't own our guns, we're just preserving them for future generations!

I bought a Swede 96 Mauser back in '81 that was in excellent condition for $69.00 bucks at Woolworth's. Like a twit, I traded it off for CB equipment. Now Swede's are $250-$400 bucks!

Hi all, I recently purchased a Ballester Rigaud, .45 acp, a CZ52 and just got my Star  9mm Largo. All were in nice condition just needing some minor cleaning. Reblued the Ballester and it turned out very nice. Just need some new grips for the Star is all.
I've shot most Wolf ammo through the Ballester but did come across some 1951 surplus packed in tin. Shot ok with no problems.

Makarov.com has some nice walnut grips for the CZ52 if anyone is interested. Sure beats the plastic for looks

Thanks I'll checkout those wood grips for my CZ.  What started me off with C&R handguns is Mikey and S.Sumner talking about the 7.62x25 round got me thinking.  I already had a Astra 600/43 9MM para. war bring back it was my first and I just picked up another Polish Tokarev in 7.62x25.  The Astra is the only C&R gun I shot so far the 9MM sure cracks.

Has anyone purchased a Bulgarian Makarov ? I was just curious about the quality and if they were as good as the Russian pieces. Cant find the Russan maks anymore but I have seen a few Bulgarians.

:D  Frank, the bulgarian mak's are really nice have two, one is kind of ugly, this thing is real surplus and use it as a carry gun, the other was also surplus but really nice looked as if it was never fired have been using honady's ammo for carry ammo has a 90 grain gold dot in it  after using sans as a back stop shot 5 rounds starting at 5 yards up to25 yards the mushroomed bullet retained most of its original weight i've no problem using it as a carry gun, have been looking at a few never issued bulgariian mak's at a gun shop and they are sweat deep blueing and nice grips too boot.

How about if it is 90 degrees and you are being shot at and you are laying in a foxhole for 3 days?  Are YOU going to get up and walk to the rear and clean YOUR pistol?  Just a thought.
