GBO is under Attack....

The GBO server has been under attack since 1:23pm CSTand continues to be attacked at a rate of about 1 per minute. It is under control and there are no worries of them getting in as we now run Atomic Secured Linux as one of our security programs and it seems to be catching and black listing the offenders.  Until the attack is over there may be some longer than normal lag times.

The attacks are coming from all over the world with most resolving back to Central America and Russia. All Mods need to be on the look out for a increase in spammers cause they may shift the attack to the forums.

Beginning last evening and all thru the day today spammers have been registering at an unreal rate. I have lost count of how many I've dumped in the last 24 hours and no doubt Tim has as well.

So far we've got most before they could begin posting but some do get thru to post.

It seems like tha spammers are trying to sell stuff no one would be interested in anyway. Now if the spammers had any brains they'd be spamming outdoors and shooting stuff.

Don't know... Our hosting provider has not sent me anything about them being attack so I would say that we have pissed off a spammer and they set us up for a lot of D.o.S. attacks or some other such attacks.

 A couple of days ago I went to the Historical Trekking site . There was a hardcore Porn site posted in one of the Forums. Pretty sick stuff...

Scoutdoorsnews.com is a forum I frequent and I got a private message from a spammer like this:

 Glad I saw this post I have been using the report this post here on GBO and writing Spam or Spammers
in the Subject box ,in the past when I saw one I sometimes would drop down the Who's On-line and try to
see if I could find a moderator ON but that is time consuming other times I would just PM Tim, GB, or Matt.
 I now would like to ask what is best for ALL to do ,The Report this Button ?

Yes the best thing is to use the Report to Moderator button. That sends an e-mail to all admins and global moderators and the moderator of that forum. Most times someone on the list will be able to get to it fairly quickly.

Only global mods and the mod of that particular forum can delete the post and only three of us can ban a member or delete the account. For most spammers we just delete them but if it's porn they are banned and if they tend to come back again they get banned.

See if your hosting provider can set up something like GEOIP  and block users coming from those countries.

That is we don't have users from Central America and Russia.
