Went out today - tri i i ied to do some bass fishing.  I wish I knew how/where to cat fish Zulu.  Water was 58 deg. air about 65 deg. for the high and partly cloudy - had some radiant heat going on.  One couple caught a 13" crappie on minnows.  I threw every thing but the boat at 'em.  I think I got one pickup on a chatterbait (my line was  moving to the side) but that was it.  I hate to admit it but I have NO idea where they are or what they wanted.    Hey it happens.  The solunar is supposed to be really good during the week this week.  When I do well they tend to be in agreement but it has never meant I will do well. I do seem to notice it after I get back from a good trip and check them though.  OK Savage there you have some ammo to play with - that's better than braidaphobia (which I threw quite a bit today).  Sounds like you did good on the cats Zulu.   Regards,  BT

Lets face it.  Your a "born again" cat fishermen.    It makes me a little sad to see someone(you) who started out with some promise, catching dinks and under sized bass, turn into a........ dough ball, cork watching, wife kicks my hiney all the time , whining, girlie rod using......bass  fishing impostor!   :D

Wal-Mart has dough balls on sale........hurry on down!!  ;D ;D

Have you checked your PM`s lately?

oldshooter:
Just read your advice  to Zulu.  A couple of things come to mind. (1) You better start wearing a straw
hat when ever your out on your Texas yacht.  I think all those years runnung "moon shine" on the Mississippi river took a toll on you . "floaty noodles."  Whoa!!   ;D
  (2) You want him to "chase after shad tied to a string?"    Do you not remember the "baby picture"
you posted of him in his Ranger, gulping down that fish sandwich ?  That should tell you the boy can`t multi-task/ ain`t right   ;)  Go back to that pic. look at his face.  Do you really think he`s going to drop the sandwich and chase a minnow  attached to a string?  On second thought, I believe he would!!    ;D

By the way. That "DO-Rag" he`s wearing was given to him for being selected CAPTAIN of the Lake Conroe Cat Fish club.  :D :D

Stop your whining!   Stop it!   Get a grip on yourself.  Go back to Zulu`s "baby Pic." See what happens when you fish only for cat fish.  The difference between a bass fishermen and the other kind is obvious.
Cat-ers have plenty of time on their hands (ie, got back to pic.)  ;D  Where as Bass fishermen, work at it all the time. (again,  go back to pic)   Either you commit or like your mentor, you spend the rest of your life watching a little white-red cork moving in little circles.
Ask for help........intervension can be yours for the asking   :D :D

BT,
Don't worry about Savage.  Whenever he figures out how to post a picture we can all put him on IGNORE! ;D

I'm going out again tomorrow to Lake Bastrop.  2 hours away.  Bass fishing only.  No corks!
Bastrop is my favorite lake.  Maybe some day I'll be able to post pictures of a bass Savage won't call a "dink".
AT LEAST I'M POSTING PICTURES!!!!!!!!! :o
I'll let everyone know how I do.
At least my freezer is full!! ;D ;D

Some how or another Zulu has corrupted you with all those cat-fish pictures.  I can see you now, everytime Zulu posts some your yelling," goodie, goodie" and clapping your hands and stomping your feet.
Get a grip, man!! What are you,a Zulu groupie?  You may need professional help!    :D :D

You said," I would like to hear what`s working out there."  You won`t learn anything from oldshooter, as he thinks chasing a minnow tied to a string is exhilarating.  Zulu. Well you saw his baby picture, wolfing down that fish sandwich.  Not a pretty sight!   :)

You need to take you trusty Zebco rod and reel set-up with your little 2 tray tackle box loaded with
all the crap you`ve found/bought at the local yard sales and spend a day at the local pond. Fling that little cork out and reflect on becoming a better man. In your case it won`t be easy, that I`m sure
       of. ;D ;D ;D

 >:( >:( >:(
220 miles and 4 hours of driving.
4 bass.  Largest 2 1/2 lbs.
Wind about 20 - 25 MPH. >:( >:(
On the water before first light.  Had the lights on.  Fished the grass till we were blue in the face.
Caught one on a spinnerbait, one on a chatterbait, one on a lizard, and one on a rapala.  Two for me and two for the wife.
We got tired of it and pulled the boat out at 1:00.
There was a guy putting in at that time and he said he caught 28 yesterday but they were all biting in late afternoon :-\
I know, they're dinks. :P
One of them had a deep cut in its side.
Still had fun but way too windy.

Went out yesterday after work for two hours. Sunny 65 deg. Water temp 58-59 deg. with crazy wind.  Caught two dinks on a buzzbait in about two feet of water with a bad chop on the water - felt a little silly using it in choppy water but hey...... Tried a trick worm, chatterbait, zoom frog and spinner bait with no luck.

Savage if they (the fish P/C society) ever find out you violated the terms of your probation you won't be able to harrass the sincere honest fisherman around you for at least a week or so.  Put that ankle bracelet back on and behave.  BTW Thanks for the advise I changed therapists on your advice.

A comment about your trip. 4 bass and 2 of those dinks where yours. I`ll give you props for sticking with it but is whining about a little breeze really necessary?  :D
You said," we got tired of it and pulled the boat out at 1:00."  As you can tell bass fishing is a lot harder than watching a cork go round and round in little circles all day long.  Stick with it. Bass fishing that is.  You have some talent even if it is marginal.   ;D

 Nice pictures by the way.

Hey Savage,
Spring is over in Florida.  Did you ever get to go fishing?  We haven't heard even one fishing story from you.  Its okay if you caught dinks too.  It happens to all of us. ;D  Even the best fisherman can't help it if a one pounder hits his lure.  Tell us what you caught.

Zulu:

Going tomorrow morning!   Nothing like being on the St John`s river early in the morning and seeing a new day start up as the sun creeps up over the trees. Nice and quiet. Not much traffic during the week
which is how I like it.  One thing is for certain, the gators will be out in force.    ;D

Looking forward to checking out my new depth/fish finder.  Nothing like seeing all those "toads"  with my name on them. ;)  As far as stuff goes. I`m taking about 10 rods or more. it all depends.  No spinning rods.  :D    Plus lots of other stuff that I may or may not use.  Be prepared!

The  ramp is only about 15 minutes from the house so my drive is no where near what you do.  Now if I go further north or south, that can change considerably.

Just going out till around noon, then back to the barn ( back yard.)
Clean out the boat. Re-charge batteries. Cover it up.  Eat some lunch. Then, when the time is right,
    take a ......power-nap.   ;D

Savage,
Is this the first time you have been out this year?
I like fishing during the week too.  The lakes this close to Houston all have hundreds of boats on them on weekends.  Plus hundreds of jet skiers which I would just as soon see drowned.  Never ever saw one with any manners.

Zulu:
Got on the river about 7:20 this mornig and it was really nice. A little cool and the water was like glass.
Went up river a tad and fished a cove with a Pop-R.  Got a Toad want-to-be (dink), maybe 1 1/2 lbs.
Went back out in the main channel, where the big pad fields are and started working them with a spinner bait.  Got 4 more Toad want-to-be`s (dinks) and a mud fish. Saw a few turkeys and an otter.
Final tally. 5 bass, none bigger than 2-2 1/2 lbs.  And the bonus mud fish.  :D
Like I said the morning started out nice but around 10am the wind picked up.  Before I left to load up it was blowing pretty good. Got off the water around 11:45. Glad I did as it started to get...hot.

Week-end fishing around here is a mess. Everybody and his brother is on the water or at the launch site.  I could write a book about the stuff I`ve seen happening at the ramp. Now that`s some funny stuff right there.   ;D :D

As far as those Jet boat jockies go.......Some are respectfull but the young guns, the ones that go all over the river doing crazy crap, sure have a different look on their faces when a bass boat is almost up
  their exhaust port.   ;D

Savage,
Do you think the spawn is over?
Texas hit its 500th 13 lb bass for the share lunker program this week.  Some lucky stiff won $6600 and change.
There is a lake in west Texas that coughed up 8 bass over 13 lbs last week! :o
Dinks are fun to catch too. ;D

Got to give Texas props. You guys do have some mighty fine bass fishing waters and the toads to go with it.  To bad you haven`t figured out how to get pass the dink-0-meter level.   :D
Stick with it. As one of these days a real Toad will jump on your girlie rod with the plastic glob at the end of your string. One jump and a good run and that Wal-Mart special will fall apart like a cheap watch.
  Oh,so close!    :D

You need to move up to a good baitcaster.  A new rod. Better yet, you need to start over.  ;D
Either commit to bass fishing and be tackle specific or just be a general (anything goes) type.  One thing about that is (general type) there is little or no pressure going that way.  Just saying.  :)

As I`ve stated before, I just fish for bass. I`m geared for it and win or lose, good days or bad, I like the challenge. Besides watching a cork bob up and down gives me a headache.  ;D

Savage,
I am really a bass fisherman since age 14 when I caught my first bass out of a tributary of your Saint John's river in Jacksonville.
I only fish for other things about 2% of the time.  My biggest bass is 7 lbs. 4 oz. caught last year.  I posted pics of that earlier.
I am dedicated.  I just can't figure out how I can go out and catch dinks and the pros go out and catch monsters.

Zulu:
Good!  Your a bass man.    Now if you`ll give put down the spinning gear for a tad and really commit to using a baitcaster, I really believe your ratio of dink to possible toad will increase.  No doubt a baitcaster can/will be a challenge but once mastered, through much practice, you will go places you never even thought of before. By that I mean, taking all those shots(casts) in and around places that need absolute control to put your lure exactly where you want it. Very hard to do with spinning gear.
Fishing open water with S/G posses no problem but for absolute accuracy, baitcasters give you that.
If you fish areas with lots of trees, stumps, etc, and once you have the feel for your new baitcaster,
you`ll find yourself making casts (on target) like the big boys do.  :D   Once you get that under control,  being in the "zone" , you bass catching will jump up.....10 fold!
Commit.  Practice. Practice. Practice!!    Nothing is easy.  Just do it!!   :)

You said, " my biggest bass is 7 lbs, 4ozs. ........."   Nice for a dink. Ok, A larger dink!      ;D    To catch the big toads you have to be on target.  Now`s the time for change.

Baitcasters huh? ???
I have heard they are the Cadillacs of bass rods.  Just never had the desire to have one.  Cast pretty well with my spinning gear.

Zulu

If you ever go up against anybody who can really use a baitcaster, you`ll find out then and there who
is the much better caster. Spinning gear certainly has it`s place in the scheme of things and is "easy" to use. That`s one reason most folks start out with it. Nothing more to do than put the line on your fore-finger,open the bail and cast. Simple as that. No more, no less.
If you think casting "well" with your spinning gear is good enough for you, then by all means stick with that but to elevate yourself to the next step in proficiency, you need to make the move.
No pain. No gain.  Looks like your going to be a girlie rod......lifer!   :(
