Yea  I was going through this old fishing stuff from garage sales and found this extra heavy braid on an old lady zebco - so probably about 240lb stuff. :D :D

Actually I have 2 reels with 50 and 65lb braid that I use in the pads and slop which in the summer gets used some days all day. Some kind of frog on top for one setup and a jig and pig or punch style to go down in the heavy stuff on the other.  I think Savage could shed some light on fishing the grass and heavy stuff.

Guys ( Zulu,bt)

I think oldshooter needs to take you guys out slab fishing on his barge. Both of you need to start over.
Nothing like going back to you roots, if for no other reason than to gain.....confidence.

Zulu can fish up front as he is the only one wearing a Napoleon style hat. I`m sure he`ll want to mount one of his fine cannons on the bow as well. Plus, he will be using his favorite rod....The Pink Zebco.
Spooled to the top with store-string.  Anyone seeing this sight for the first time won`t know what to think. Especially with Zulu yelling, Slow down... Your going to fast! Remember what he drives... ;D
With that, oldshooter guns it. Now the barge is flying through a "no wake zone" at close to .....
18 MPH. Dam(n) the torpedoes , full speed ahead. There`s slabs to be caught!!   Zulu still yelling.

bt: I`m thinking you`ll be using one of your garage sale finds. The Pocket Fisherman.  Spooled with invisible mono. Remember you can`t use that unknown frog as this is a slab trip.  Minnows only!
Course the entire trip you`ll be wondering if the mono is really.......ivisible. Especially if you don`t catch any.  No surprise there.
I`m thinking you guys might want to kick in for a little gas and some grub as oldshooter is in for a long day...

Hope you guys enjoy this as much as I have................ ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

In the meantime, Savage pulls up to the weigh in.  Water sloshing over the gunwales cause his boat is so heavily loaded with fish.  5 bass weigh in?  62 lbs.  A new record. :o :o
But he can only tell us about it. :-\  He dosen't have a camera. ??? ???  Oh well, another fishing record lost to legend.

All I can do is stare into the bottom of my Napolean hat (holding one small slab) and cry.  At least I have a picture! ;D
How do you fillet a minnow? ???

It's okay Savage.  I had this one take an 8" rubber lizard in the pads.  Caught it on the pink Zebco.  I had it mounted.

Zulu:

I`ll bet he (the minnow) put a "twang" in that 240 lb braided line.

Pink Zebco:    If you can get one in 7 foot it would make a nice flipping stick.

Mounted:  That will look good next to your "singing" bass.  And I know you`ve got one!!    ;D
Next time use your little finger. Makes the fish look bigger.   :D

BT,
save all you want.  I found them all online.
I went out again today.  Lake Conroe again.  On the water at dawn.  Temp got to 80 degrees.  Water temp was up to 68 degrees.
Wife wanted to fish with minnows :P  She was going for crappie but we couldn't find any. ???  I was casting a spinner bait while she was tossing minnows.  She caught two catfish and I caught two bass and one catfish on a spinnerbait!  I actually lost one more cat at the boat on that same lure.
Hung a couple of more bass on an 8" lizard but lost them. :P
She wanted to bring home fish so we did.
Here they are.
They won't win any awards but we spent a great day on the water and had a great time. ;D
Lake Conroe is 38 miles from Houston.  Houston has 4 million people!  I'm glad we can fish on a weekday because on a weekend there are 400 boats on the water and all you can do is get in line and follow them down the shore. :'(
It is heavily overfished!
We still had fun! :D

At least I have pictures. ;D

Now I don't want this to get political but if you enlarge that truck you'll see an obama sticker in the rear window!   ::) could be savage , I dunno! But that is definitely my barge can you see the spongebob rod on there?

Zulu:

Your in a bass boat fishing for cat-fish.    ???
" Lost one more cat at the boat."  Hard to set the hook using a girl- e rod.
"...................8" lizard but lost them."  Still using that girl-e rod I see.

Are you sure that`s oldshooters barge?  I thought he had a Merk out-board?    ;D

bt must think his truck is lighter than a 5 gallon bucket.  Either that or he`s way behind on his
       payments.

"Savage launching his boat."       What`s your point?   :D

Lets get something straight right from the get-go!    I`m a Ford man ..... ;D   Plus, that sticker you refer too is an ........NRA sticker.

A question about your barge.  Is that the "De-luxe" model?  I only say that cause I see it has,  "rail bumpers."  I believe the standard model comes equiped with plastic bleach bottles tighed on with
    duct tape.  Just asking........... ;D

Zulu:

Who ever that young man is .......He is dead serious about what he`s doing.  He has the makings of a fine Bass fishermen.

That begs the question.............What happened to you?  You`ve got a bass boat. Oops, I mean a  Ranger. You go out trying to catch bass but end up catching, crap-e, catfish, minnows, dink bass, carp,
mudfish, gar, suckers and other assorted trash fish. Not one Toad has been brought to your boat.  Not one!
So I`m thinking you "need" to take that young man out with you as he will not only give you a quick lession in Bass fishing 101, But in all likely hood.....Kick your Azz !!   :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
