Well, this is the 300th reply in this thread. I have read that 300 replies is epic! I wonder if it really matters that most of them have been from a few people.
Wife and I went out today. Yes, we decided to brave the killer heat and try it.
On the lake at very first light. Threw the cast net against the bulkheads to try to pick up some bait. Managed about 3 dozen shad with 10 throws. Also had a package of frozen shad with us from when they were running.
We each rigged 1 pole for catfish and 2 poles for bass. Got no strikes on a Rapala. Had a Carolina rigged worm for deeper water but the wind was about 20 MPH in spite of the weatherman saying 5 MPH. Too windy to fish deep.
Fished shad under a cork in 4' of water and cleaned up!!!
We came home with 18 catfish weighing a total of 39 1/2 lbs.
That made a lot of fillets.
I only tried topwater for bass for the first 2 hours but nothing was shallow. At least nothing was hitting a Rapala.
Small whitecaps on the lake so we really had to hug the bulkheads.
Off the water by noon.
18 fish between 2 and 4 lbs.

Here is a picture of some of them. I had started cleaning them when I remembered I hadn't taken a picture.
I know, I know, they are only catfish. YUM!
