RCBS Primer Pocket Swager Question
« on: March 05, 2010, 02:16:21 PM »
I did some searching on this forum but didn't find what I was looking for.  I was wondering if anyone here has any experience using the RCBS Primer Pocket Swager.  Here it is on Midway:

Seems like it does a good job in reading the reviews.  However, I'm wondering if it also works on loose primer pockets, or is this tool just for crimped primer pockets.  I have some military crimped cases (PMC) that I want to use it on and I also have some cases where the primer pockets are getting a bit loose, even using CCI primers.  I would like to tighten those up a bit.

Thanks for your help.

Steve

To my knowledge,(and I have darn little) non of the pocket swagers fix a loose pocket. They just "press" the crimp out. Some feel that is better than a reamer because no brass is removed.
Brass get's old and loses tolerance and eventually expends it's life as a safe reload. When I get one that the primer slips into real easy, it's marked and will see it's last firing with that load.

Necchi is correct, not much to tighten up a loose primer pocket. You might try Wolf primers as some have noted that they are ever so slightly larger and will overcome a slightly loose pocket-cannot say I have noted that and I use Wolf primers routinely.

The RCBS swager is to remove military crimp.

Thanks for the quick replies.  Looks like the loose primer pocket cases go into the recycle bin.
