Any problems with Leupold VX1 scopes?
« on: March 06, 2010, 04:07:29 AM »
I visited a gun shop on this week that was going out of business and the owner indicated that the VX1 scopes he sold had all kinds of problems holding zero. He reported groups of 9" or larger with 5 of the 7 he had, indicating they were faulty. I asked if he sent them back and he indicated the postage got be be too much to mess with them, then dropped the subject of repair to continue complaining about them. I have two of the VX1 shotgun scopes with no problems. I wanted to see if he had any left he would sell, but he didn't want to continue the conversation.

Any such reports in you areas?

I cannot understand why he would complain about something that has a lifetime guarantee and will be fixed or replaced FREE of charge(except shipping)???
Just my 2 cents
Sounds like a Leupold hater!! ;D
Anyone I know that had a problem sent them back for repair or replacement with good results

They might be some of the counterfeit Leupold scopes from China that are floating around. That would explain why they are defective. If they are genuine Leupold products I'd not be afraid of them.

+1   Where is he mailing them from? Free factory repair of a > $200 scope no questions asked. I would be sniffing around for an agenda. You can get a lot of folks to argue that a Leupold is over priced or not as good as X scope but its usually tempered with "if it ever breaks they sure have a good warrantee though".

I have had a VX-I and a Rifleman for some years now without any problems. Sounds like one of those "gun shop experts" we all have dealt with!

What were they called before VX-1?  Wasn't there a Gold Ring or something?  I have two very old Leupolds that still work great.  Both are 3X9 on 1" tubes.  One has a serial number so low that it can't be age dated by them.  I think I bought it used in the late 60's.

I have three VX-1's now.  Good scopes with solid company support.  I got one that was bad out of the box.  I returned it.  The new one works well.  Someone wouldn't pay a bit over $10 to have an over $200 scope made good?  Sounds suspicious.
