old 28 gage H&R
« on: March 06, 2010, 04:53:28 AM »
Hi,

I am looking for a source for a replacement stock and forestock for an old 28 gauge h&r.  As an alternative to replacement maybe a professional restoration of the existing furniture.  Note: The old stock was broken in half and someone "fixed it" with Gorilla glue.
This is my best friend's grandfather's gun and he wants to make a nice looking wall hanger.  Here is the information I have on the gun.

Harrington & Richardson
built in Worcester, Mass
Patent  Feb. 27, 1900

On top of barrel is stamped "28 ga CHOKE"

Serial # is 18**50 and doesn't have letter prefix.

any help greatly appreciated.

thanks

Check Numrich, it's pre-1940, no prefix.

go to http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=168&t=45907 and check out the work done by candyman. He fixes stocks that I would have guessed would be firewood. He could give you some pointers or fix it for you.

If it was me and I got it from my grandfather and was going to wall hang it. I would just clean it up as is then oil the L out of it. Leave the mojo in the gun so to speak. Kurt
