Even though I have some minor shimming for the barrel I wanted to put it together and see how it all works. And again let me thank Larry, Pete, DP, and I guess we have to include Lyle for this barrel. ;D

I may need to bob the hammer but for now it just clears like my 35 Whelen.  Stats as is it is 29" overall, 7lbs. 12.5 ozs (with 9 shells of 150gr factory ammo) .  A bit heavier than I wanted but it points nice, and the simmons pro-diamond 1.5 to 5 power illuminated reticle has awesome field of view and a huge eye piece that I can easily aim both eyes open.  Pete would like that! :)

Barrel looks great Larry and that finish should be applied to all handi barrels.  It will either go on the pictured frame or a nickle one.  It fits the closest on these, making it my shortest lugged barrel.

Can't wait to get it finished and to the range.  Just wanted to share my vision:

Jerry

Smiling ear to ear!

Looks real good Jerry.  I'm interested to know just how loud she's gonna "bark" when you touch her off. :o  Enjoy her Jerry.  DP

Went with the blued frame.  Epoxied .004 shim and waiting for it to dry.  Hammer will be fine as is so I'm leaving it be for now.  Might make it to the range tomorrow!

Wow!  Looks like this barrel is going to shoot.  Its putting the Rem 150gr factory load at about 1 1/8' at 100 yds.  Had another at 50 that was a one holer and spoiled it. :P

Over the chrony the shorty is producing 2075fps avg at 10 feet.  Anybody have a 22" barrel velocity with these?

DP,...Its bark is defenitely worse than its bite.  At least at my end. ;D

Nice shooting Jerry! I get 2125fps with 200gr and 1940fps with 240gr handloaded cast bullets in my 22" 35 Rem Handi, data is Hodgdon Varget jacketed.

Thanks guys!  I still have about 8 inches of crusty snow at the range and I didnt even feel like walking out to the hundred, thats why I shot someone else's old target.  I was busting the 100 yd steel plates and decided what the heck.  Glad I did.

Do they now or did they used to offer the Handi in 35rem?  Or is it strictly a custom option?

Thanks Tim read that article while waiting for barrel to arrive.  2350, had to be a 22 or 24 incher!

DP, I have to tell ya, it really is fun to fire.  But like you suggested its pretty loud.  Not as loud as my 300wsm in a 16.5 barrel though. :-X  Which by the way is longer in a ruger frontier than this Handi is by about 3".

Any time you like you are welcome to shoot. ;)  I hope you have as much fun as I did today!

300wsm, in a 16.5" barrel?  OMG!  That otta blow yer hair straight back with the concussion wave!  I love the ol' 35 rem, I'm just gonna have to have one reamed too.  Don't know if I'm ever gonna get east of the Mississippi, but if you ever head this way, give a shout.  DP

You gotta try some Hornady 200 grain gummies in that puppy, you will be happy you did from my experience.

I always ran Rem 200 gr roundnose over 4895 at one grain under max.  They would do 1900 fps in my 18" barreled 'Mag-na-ported' Marlin.  That was one great fun rifle.....   I still have it, but it's on 'loan' to a friend for his use.  I still have lots of .35 Rem brass and bullets, might have to get a Handi to shoot them in....  .35 Rem is a great cartridge!  44 Man

Have about 150 of the 200 gr hornady sp to try.  Just for the heck finally ordered the 180 SSPfor my maximum, but some will find their way into a 35 rem case.  Thanks for any and all info.
