Check this out. I've read it quickly and it leaves me with some really mixed feelings. The old - darned if you do /don't and a bit of the be careful what you wish for.  But maybe a few libs are seeing the light. Just don't like what they are trying to tag onto the gun issue.

There is a great deal more to McDonald than the overly simplistic "Do you like guns?" crap.  It has implications on fundamental rights and a precedent to overrule.  I DO NOT think it has anything to do with abortion or gay marriage however.

It does expose the interesting dichotomy between those traditionally considered liberal who support the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th amendment (and parts of the first) but are openly hostile to the second vs. those who are traditionally labeled conservative who support parts of the first, the second and the tenth but usually are openly hostile to those supported by the liberals.

People who actively support all the rights granted to us are extremely rare.  Hell, finding someone who even understands what those rights are is extremely rare.

That would be the truth and we don't have to look very far from this forum to understand how rare it is.

GRANTED?  Sorry, the Constitution is a contract wherein the People and the States ceded some of their powers to the federal government in return for some essential services - common defense, roads, ports, protected borders, etc.  And we wrote in some protections of pre-existing rights.  In no way does the Constitution "grant" us our rights.

But, I would say that the people in CAC are more classic Jeffersonian Liberals (upper case L on purpose) than McGovernite liberals (lower case l on purpose) that we commonly see rioting in the streets or demanding to be called by their august title of Senator.

Not at all.  If our rights did not exist before the Constitution, or the Articles of Confederation, were ratified, and were indeed granted by the federal government, then it would be quite easy for the federal government to revoke those rights (actually, they would be more like privlidges than rights).  If, on the other hand, they pre-exist the federal government, as has been stated in several opinions of the SCOTUS, then it is much more difficult for the federal government to (legally and constitutionally) revoke those rights.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I just think you focused to much on the word granted. He used a poor choice of word with that, no question. I know who gave me my Rights and it's not the government or any man.

once all control is removed from the states the liberals do not have to fight 50 state battles to win just the federal one. sure does make it easier.

Surprisingly, I have noted more and more common ground between me and many liberals, especially since Obongo was elected.  He re-authorized the hated Patriot Act.  This was not covered in the media, but liberals I know personally are somewhat disillusioned.

MSNBC/NBC constantly hammered the Bush admin over the Patriot Act. You don't hear a word from the circus clown line up on MSNBC about now. Silence.

even liberals will support the 2nd if threatened, they always want to feel safe

that's why they're usually anti-gun, because crooks make them feel unsafe, and that's why some will step-up now because big gov is scaring them.  don't knock it though, I'm not.  it's good to get help wherever we can.  the problem I see though, is not the liberals going after our rights if the supreme court forces incorporation- but the nra getting totally rotted out/corrupted first, and then selling us out.  imagine the next nra packet pushing progressive insurance on you.   :-\
