6.5X55
« on: March 07, 2010, 06:00:57 AM »
I just traded for a 6.5X55 SE.  It's in fairly good condition except the checkering is not good and a couple of scratches in the blue on the barrel.  The wood is ok but nothing out standing as far as figureing goes.  I'm guessing the stock was at some point sanded, looking at the checkering and how it's almost non-existant in some areas and no sharp points left anywhere.  It did come with rings, trigger is good, set trigger is creepy.  Any ideas on what it might be worth?  I'm in it for $300.00.  DP

If you reload try the Nosler 100gr partitions.  Took a couple deer at 300+ yards.  One deer right at 500!!

Are you looking to sell? New ones have gone up a lot the past couple of years. Unless there is a major problem with barrel/action I think you did well. I have one that shoots under !'' with several loads, and is a pleasure to shoot. The stock is a little thick, so somebody may have been trying to slim it a little. Shame they didn't do it properly.

If you go to Brownells you can buy a tool for freshening up the checkering that will make it pretty close to good as new. Then refinish as you like.

I bought one several years ago and it is the most accurate hunting rifle I own.  If its like mine you have a single set trigger.  This trigger is adjustable for take up, over travel, and trigger weight for the none set trigger as well as trigger pull in the set position.  They come from the factory a little creepy but with about five minutes of adjusting you can have a crisp almost no movement trigger pull of 2.5 pounds and when set a half pound trigger like mine has.  By the way this is the best factory trigger I ever owned.
