After a fair amount of deliberation (and lurking around here), I bought a new Buck Mark Stainless Standard URX last week. I appreciate all the good info many of you provided. I had a ball shooting it this weekend and look forward to many years of fun to come!
Yesterday a couple of buddies came over for a target shooting spree at my makeshift range in the woods out back. We shot most of our combined rimfire, centerfire, muzzleloader, and shotgun arsenal. That included 50 rounds each of Remmington Thunderbolts, Remmington Golden Bullets, CCI minimags, and about 100 rounds of Federal bulk through the Buck Mark. We had a blast - literally!
Today I went back out for some serious ammo comparison from the bench and sandbags at 20 yards. I shot another 50 rounds each of the four mentioned above. The two Remmingtons both gave 10-shot groups around 2.5 to 3 inches. CCI and Federal did a little better with groups around 2 to 2.5 inch. The best 10-shot group was 1.75 inch from the Federal.
Of all the 450 or so rounds combined, there were 3 duds - two Thunderbolts and one Golden Bullet. There were zero problems feeding/ejecting.
I'm no crack shot, so human error doesn't really let me say all that much about which ammo is really best. I did confirm what some of you said about keeping an eye on the sight-mount screws. They'll come loose if you let em. The one thing I know for sure is I love my new toy, and I'm pretty sure it likes me too!
