Anyone ever buy anything from Ed's Contenders?
« on: March 08, 2010, 03:36:58 AM »
Has anyone here ever bought anything from Ed's Contenders?  Within the past two weeks I've sent two e-mails from the contact page and never heard a response.  Is this company still around?  If it takes this long to get a response, how long does it take to get a product once one has paid for it?

If anyone has any info on this site/business, I'd like to know a little about it.

Thanks!

I imagine most here have and many have had multiple transactions with him. E-mail really isn't the best way to communicate with Ed in my experience. So long as you use the correct e-mail address as listed on his site and if you are actually attempting to buy from him you do normally get a reply. BUT if you are just asking him questions more appropriately asked in a forum like this one then I'd not bet on an answer as quite honestly Ed is a VERY BUSY man and just doesn't have time in his schedule to answer general questions better asked here.

I find a phone call to the phone numbers listed and at the times he says are most appropriate are better for reaching him. He used to work as a CPA in his own practice but now works directly for the company that was his largest client so during the day when he is at work he might not be able to stop and talk for long times. If you leave a phone message for him and state you are seeking to do business with him and to buy a barrel or whatever he is pretty good at returning calls.

Most times I get him directly but do try to call when he's not at his employer's place of business. If I don't get him and leave a message he has always called me back.

I think most everyone agrees that once you've bought an item it is shipped and in your hands about as fast as anyone could expect that to happen. Ed is an excellent source for TC items and likely is the country's largest dealer in such but he is a busy man who has a full time job other than selling TCs and so has to work the TC stuff in around his full time job. Chances are when he's not at work for his employer he is either talking to someone about sales, replying to e-mails about sales or boxing/shipping items sold or at a gun show selling directly to folks. The man can't get much sleep with his schedule.

Thanks a lot for the info Bill.  I'll try giving him a call if I get a chance today.

Actually, the only question I had for him was what I need to do to purchase an item he has listed on his site, so I'm ready to buy.  This is why I found it odd to not get a reply but now you've cleared things up for me....I'll use the phone.

I just talked to Ed today on the phone.  Bill is correct in that the best way to reach him is via the phone.  Keep in mind that his website does not get updated as often as it probably should.  You need to verify an item is still in stock.  If an item is not shown on his website check with him anyway, it may be available now.  His prices are very fair and as Bill said his turnaround time is great.

I have bought and sold at least 10 times from Ed. Phone is the best way as has been said. I talked to one of the men that work with him at the gun show and told him to ask Ed to update his web sight and was told they are doing their best to keep it updated
By the way Ed is great to deal with.

Funny you asked. I ordered a barrel last Monday (via phone) from Ed. This has been the first order that I had ever placed with him. I was told that the barrel I wanted would not be in until lFriday and that he would mail it then. I got it today. I'm very happy Ed and will be giving Ed more of my bussiness in the future.

Wow, thanks everyone.  I'll have to give him a call.  His prices are very affordable and there is one barrel he has listed that I really want.  I hope it's still in stock when I get a chance to call.

Thanks again for all of your input.

I was ready to buy and I called asked what he had in .357 magnum or max in a length of 16 to 21 inches in stainless and he said he would have to check to see what he had and call me back. Well I haven't heard from him yet and I guess I don't need a answer to what barrels he had or a price. I know he is a sponsor here and I appreciate the site and all the enjoyment I get from it. But I also think if you tell someone you gonna call him back he deserves to be called back. Maybe I am wrong to feel the way I do, But if you can't communicate with him enough to buy from him what would you do if you had a problem with the item?

 tried to.
But when I got hold of him to place the order the price went way up from the price on the Website.   I think like $50 on a 120 item.  Last Time I checked he still has the wrong price for the item.  And no that added $ was not for shipping, Handeling, or sales tax.  Found what I wanted from Members here and I think I am happier for it.
