Williams Peep Sight
« on: March 08, 2010, 05:18:25 AM »
I read about this in the FAQ but still a little confused.  Does the Williams peep sight screw right on the barrel scope mount screws?  Oe is there some gunsmithing required?

Also, can you keep the front sight or do you need to have a taller one mounted?

This is in regards to a sportster .22

Thanks for the help.

The WGRS or the FP and FP-TK come with two screws that mount in the two rear scope mount holes, you'll likely need a taller front sight since it mounts higher above the bore on the chamber swell.

With the peep slid all the way back (down) in its adjustment you 'may' get close depending on how far out you are sighted. If you file or sand the blade front to bare metal you can epoxy on a piece of small dia. brazing rod (which will give you a 'bead' look) or any filler you like to effectively make it taller.

Gents,

I have a new 22 mag on which I have installed the WGRS sight in the most rearward position on the barrel.  With the stock front sight rounds were impacting above the target at 25 yds.  I ordered a new front sight from Remington, requesting the tallest blade front sight they had, thinking I could file it down if needed.  I received one of the "bead" type front sights rather than a blade.  I repeated the order and received a blade sight with a .562 height, along with an apology, no requirement to return the incorrect part, and no charge for the replacement.

The rounds were striking about 3" too high with the .562 blade.  I measured the peep height, breech diameter and muzzle diameter and calculated a front sight requirement of .75 for a mid-range peep adjustment.  I called Remington again and they said they carry a .65 blade as their tallest and would send that at no further charge and again no requirement for return of the other parts.  Maybe this will be on target with the peep adjusted to its lowest range.  I asked if these parts were made by Williams or other company who might carry a taller blade, but was told these were made by Remington.

This may be usefull to others looking to mount the WGRS peep on a Sportster.  As for Remington, in my experience thus far I have to say that the customer reps may not get your order right, but they are polite and will make good on things.  My guess is that they're not getting the training or resources to handle contacts correctly the first time.  If Remington would publish a parts list to order from, either on-line or by phone, that would solve a lot of issues, it seems to me.
