Bullets / Bullet Lubes / Powders
« on: November 12, 2003, 02:12:09 AM »
I'm looking for some advise on what lube combination works best with Triple 7 powder.

I've cast up a bunch of T/C Maxi-Balls and am wondering what the best lube choice is if I want to use Triple 7.

I'm shooting an older CVA .45 Caliber sidehammer rifle.  In the past, I've used standard black powder (GOEX) under a Hornady Great Plains bullet.  I've had best luck melting off the factory lube and recoating the things with T/C's Wonder lube.  I wanted to go with the Maxi-Ball for a little heavier projectile and wanted to use the Triple 7 to increase my velocity.

So, the question is, what's the best lube to use with the Triple 7?  Should I use the standard Beeswax/Crisco lube to fill the grooves?

What's more important than lube selection is your powder coarseness selection. Buy the FFF 777 and be prepared to give your bore a water-bath after every range visit in order to keep your boster/drum/nipple channel clear of crud that is difficult to remove with Q-tips, pipe cleaners or your standard bore brush.

As far as lubes go, I would continue to use the same type used for your Great Plains first... if the results aren't satisfactory, then experiment with others.

Nobody reading this thread knows what kind of lube your rifle will like because rifle diameters are not consistent with any manufacturer.... even if it's the same model, same type barrel, same stock... etc.
