Well, i got mine for $550 but here in NY we have to have a spent shell casing sent in to some group and since my dealer's wholesalers didnt have a complete G2 contender pistol in stock i had to order the rifle parts also to get around our BS law. So,now i have to make up my mind whether or not to resell the rifle parts OR order another barrel in the future Because i ordered a 12" 44mag barrel and anything under 16" you cant put on a rifle frame, its still considered a pistol....Weird ,only in NY.

Federal law prevents you from putting less than a 16 inch barrel on a rifle.  It isn't considered a pistol, but a short barreled rifle.  I believe you can get a federal permit for one, but it is like a machine gun or a silencer, it is expensive.

You may want to review the informaiton all over the internet about the legality of switching a rifle to a pistol.  By getting the rifle parts you may have committed to having a rifle.

You have to make up your own mind.  Read the court case and discussion about the legality of what you are going to do, and decide for yourself.

While it is unlikely you will be challenged by BATF or LEOs about this, are the gunsmiths/owners going to do your jail time if they are wrong?

I am sure if I am follwoing your statement, but if you bought a Contender Rifle set and receiver and thats the way it came factory..

YOU CAN NOT PUT A PISTOL BARREL ON IT. Thats the Law in N.Y. If it came Factory as a Pistol'ed receiver you can put any barrel on it, pistol or rifle, but it must be on your pistol license. I have coffee with the Judge in my County that issues the pistol permits and he is pro-gun and NRA all the way....And knows the laws and T/C.

Bottom line in regards to the law...If a dis-honest man buys a T/C rifle and puts a 6" barrel on it, throws it in a shoulder holster, puts on his coat and now he has an ILLEGAL concealed pistol....

Call T/C and ask if receivers leave the factory as for Pistols and Rifles. They'll tell you.

Do you have a pistol permit ? If so, just put it on your permit and you can do what ever you want.

The larger issue is the federal law and the supreme court decision and its interpratation by BATF.  Read the top post on the stickies for this forum.  It has what seems to be the latest round of this.  To sum it up if you have a Contender that started life as a rifle it needs to stay that way.  If it started life as a pistol then it can change once to a rifle and stay that way.  The odds of ever being caught are long, but I would not suggest anyone should break the law.  I have frames for rifles and frames for pistols and never mix the two.  I do shift barrels on the frames, but keep them rifle or pistol.

For sure if you were to put that 12 inch barrel on your frame with the rifle stock attached you would have an illegal weapon, a short barreled rifle.  That if seen will get you arrested.

State law and carry permits etc. can make this more restrictive, not less.  In other words if you want to carry a Contender pistol concealed and put it on your permit that is one thing.  If it started life as a rifle and you put a pistol barrel on it having it on your permit will not affect its status to the feds.

Like I said before, read the many posts and the court case and decide what you want to do.  And be careful of the legal opinions given by gun store clerks and barracks lawyers.

You did nothing wrong if you register it on your permit.

If you choose to break the law have the good sense not to advertise it on the web.
