OEM ramrod or Hubbards?

Hi guys, I would like to know what you guys think I should do. I would like to get an OEM ramrod for my 24"barrel and shoot it a bit and perhaps hunt with it one season before possibly ordering a Hubbards. I need a collapsible ramrod for the 24" H&R ML barrel. I was thinking of posting a WTB for one that a member might have replaced with a Hubbard and is no longer using, hoping I could find a cheap one. The Hubbard is only $35 shipped and if I did get one I would most likely order 2, one for my shortened H&R ML and one for my 24" barrel. I already have a rod for the shorty and was hoping to get a cheap OEM for my 24" to start. Any thoughts? Should I buy a used OEM or just order 2 Hubbards? I would like to get an OEM for the 24" barrel and perhaps hunt with it one season before ordering the Hubbards...Thanks for your input and suggestions....<><....:)

Well the Hubbard rod is so much better I don't know why you would spend anything to get a poor substitute like the standard rod. I suppose if someone would give you one it would be OK but paying for one and shipping seems like a waste of money to me. I can't even remember where my original rod went to and really could not care. Obviously my recommendation is buy the Hubbard now.

Anyone else? I don't mind taking my time and using the rod as it was designed to be used, start the bullet with the rod collapsed and push in a straight line/direction. However I must agree, with more thought it does seem reasonable for me to just order the Hubbard rod...Thanks....<><....:)

I have to agree with Keith on thi sone. Spend the money first as last.  The quality is so superior you will wonder how you ever got along without one. Also like Keith, I have no clue whee my original is otherwise I would send it to you. In fact I think I gave it away in  pif.

Even the Hubbard rod recommends doing the same by starting with it collapsed and then extending but I have used mine fully extended but not with real hard to start bullets.

MSP, send me your info and you can have my old oem from my 24" huntsman. The hubbard rod is a quality piece though! You will want one once you use the oem. But give it a try I also still use a range rod aka cleaning rod out on the range so really the hubbard won't see much action anyways. Just don't tell the guys at the FD I'm giving a DAMN COP something... LOL

Hey Tank, Thanks, and don't worry about the FD thing, my son is a firefighter as well as many of my friends currently, and also guys that I grew up with, but many of them are retired now. I was assigned as the SP representative to a couple of joint task force's involving the SP, local PD's and local FD's. Just yesterday I went to a funeral and the guy was a call FF. The dept (which no longer has call guys) had a color guard and one of my bow shoting and hunting buddies was in the FD color guard (a former marine) and the FD color guard looked VERY familiar, I asked him about it and it was modeled after the USMC Dress Blues with the addittion of some red and gold . I have my suspicions that he had something to do with designing thier new color guard uniforms. A little later I met the chief of that same FD who I have not seen in a couple of years. He and I were local cops together about 40 years ago, he left to go to the FD and I left to go on the State Police. Our camps in Maine are only about 5-7 miles apart and we talked about the lack of deer the last couple of years. He will be stopping by my camp to visit this fall...Thanks again....I'll send you some $ for the shipping. PM sent with info....<><....:)

No need for the cash Andy but thanks for the offer. My best friend is a deputy in the same county I work in but trust me the jokes never stop its always back and forth back and forth. Our depts. share buildings and just a couple weeks ago when it was still getting down to about 20 at night we went out every so often throughout the night and sprayed his car down with a nice light mist of water by the time we were done we had about a 1/2" of ice built up on his entire car... ;D I think by now its just turned into something that's expected... LOL Sry to hear about the loss but I'm glad to hear of the nice turnout. It always means a lot to everyone to see the impact their loved ones made and that so many people came out to pay their respects.

I use Harvester Crushed Rib sabots and you can start them with your finger so the OEM rod works just fine. I do use a range rod at the range.
