Coffee
« on: March 10, 2010, 05:59:56 AM »
I am not a coffee expert, but I have never tried a coffee that couldn't be made to taste ok with vanilla coffee creamer.  I know real men drink it black, so its a good thing I don't pretend to be a real man!  ;D  Anyway, Maxwell House Breakfast Blend is NASTY!  There isn't enough creamer in the world to make this smell go away.  I swear I smell eggs cooking while the coffee is brewing and no one is this house besides me would be cooking eggs.  YUCK!  Has anyone else tried this or is it just me that can smell the eggs?

Maxwell House Breakfast Blend is NASTY!

I've never smelled the breakfast blend, but I usually buy and drink the Maxwell House Dark Roast. It has sort of a skunky smell to it and I like that. ;)

:) Howdy! Heather: One of the best coffees I have ever had is the brand Eight O'Clock 100% Colombian whole bean coffee. I like to grind my own coffee. It is really good! A couple of other specialty coffees that are good are Kona from Hawaii and the very expensive Jamaica Blue Mountain. They are very good! Take care!  Always, Gene

You are right Heather. That stuff is nasty. I wouldn't drink it if it was free. I drink Folgers but a lot of people don't like that. I bought some cheap stuff at the dollar store. It isn't to bad.

Oldshooter,

Sometimes I can't figure myself out (course, I don't think on the subject too much), but I've always liked light skunky smells. Not the "I've just been attacked by a Skunk oder" (that's very repulsive), but a light wispy presence of the oder leaves a rather pleasurable effect on my olfactory system. For example, the very distant smell of a skunk, skunky beer, some tobacco burns with a light skunky smell...all of these I find pleasurable. When I was a teen, some kids would smoke pot at the beer parties, and although I never smoked the stuff, and if I did, I never inhaled it, ;D I sure liked the smell of the skunky weed as it burnt. ;)

I had a neighbor hook me on the special coffee's several years ago. I'm not sure if I'm glad or not. I just can't tolerate the crap that passes for coffee at most places. The good stuff is so danged expensive though. I compromise by drinking the good stuff by the mug not the pot. A few fuel stations have decent coffee and I'll frequent them, as well as the specialty places. Dang Starbucks don't have big truck parking though!

I may be letting my trucker brethern down but I am a bit of a coffee snob. I'll even use the um, vanilla cream, to kill the taste of lousy coffee. OK fine, I'm outting myself, I own/wear Birkenstocks, eat a salad once in a while, carry a man purse, and can text on my phone.

Wow, I do feel better now. I was just kidding about the salad thing, really.

I'm not a fan of anything by Maxwell House for some reason. If you like French Vanilla, give the folgers flavored blend a try. My wife will drink that with skim milk and splenda; everything else she has to pour half a cup of French Vanilla creamer in it, and that ain't good for you.

I like the Kona coffees too, but I live in Hawaii so its really easy to get. Gotta be careful though; a lot of them are blends with "as much as 10% Kona" mixed with arabica. If you can find 100% Kona, that is tasty indeed. Its funny though, we're surrounded by Kona, and we go nuts whenever we can find some Dunkin Donuts coffee.  ;D

Oddly enough the best coffee I ever had was at a truck stop  ???.  I was driving (just personal travel - not trucking) from Orlando back to Charleston, SC, and somewhere in Georgia I needed to stop for gas, bathroom, some snacks, etc.  Pulled into some truck stop along the way that had a full coffee shop inside.  Don't know what their secret was but they had the absolute best cappuccino I've ever tried (and I try to at least try out every coffee house in my local vicinity).

Anyways, as to coffee's, when I do brew at home, I've found that Wal-mart of all places actually has some pretty good coffee in their "Sams Choice Gourmet" lines.  Comes in little foil bags and they have all sorts of different types.  It's more expensive than your regular old coffee's, but far cheaper than the other gourmet varieties.

TM, I was going to mention Kona as being a very good coffee. I don't drink it often, because of how expensive it is. A guy I work with goes to Hawaii once a year and I get him to bring me back some Kona. Now this guy says its just as expensive in Hawaii. He never charges me for it because he says he knows someone there that gets it for him for nothing. He says its 100% Kona. I know 100% Kona here is around $50 a pound. What does it cost out there?

There is a coffee house near by that roasts coffee and I buy their Sumatra brand which is pretty good, and it isn't that expensive.  As far as the flavored creamers go I never liked them, but many people do.

Heather,

I kinda' like Luzianne coffee, and I'm probably one of about 3 or 4 people hereabouts that do.  I do not like the Maxwell House of any description.

Even though you are more of a man that most of us old geezers here, I'm thankful for Matt you don't look the part.

Throw the stuff out in the garden, it's good for the plants, and get some more coffee.  Ya' might try some Luzianne, it's good stuff!

We  too like the french vanilla creamer, powdered or liquid. When we travel to ILL I always get a cappuccino on the road, just the gas station variety, never been to a coffee shop. I'd like to try a real cappuccino someday. Dr only wants me to drink decaff, we usually buy the Maxwell house when it's on sale.

:) Howdy! Mechanic, I had almost forgot about Luzianne coffee. I drank it rather frequently in the past. I had a friend from New Orleans and we had Luzianne and Community Dark Roast a number of times. These are the only coffees that I will put some creamer into. And maybe a dab of sugar, too.  Always, Gene

It must be pretty bad coffee if you have to cover the taste with all that junk.
I want it very stout, hot and black.
Save the creamer to start fires with and the sugar for iced tea.

I grew up in ILL and listened to the grand ole opry every Sat night. Luzianne was a sponsor. Remember the jingle well--Luzianne coffee with chickory it brings out coffees flavor you only use about 1/2 as much luziannes a money saver, luziannes a money saver. ANYWAY, I got to go to Nasville in high school and HAD to buy a can of that wonderful coffee I'd heard about for so many years. Mom didn't like it, she said she drank too much of it in WW11 and now wants real coffee. Chickory give it a unique flavor, only other brand I ever knew to use chickory was  chock full of nuts. I like the taste of chickory, my wife doesn't, luzianne isn't available around here. Chickory was widely used to make the coffee go farther during the civil war and was very popular all through the South. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

there is a protein supplement with a massive b-vitamin and other "natural" stimulants profile called "carnivor"... it's like dark cherry kool-aid and ... and... weird kool-aid.

it'll help you butch up enough to drink that black coffee too (when you get your guns big be sure to flex on matt)

I was raised on Luzianne Chicory coffee, I’ll never forget the first time my wife had it, she thought I had poisoned her.

I have used most every brand on the market over the years but I recently went back to Maxwell House Original Blend.  I drink my coffee “hot, strong and black” and really enjoy the taste of the Maxwell House.  My wife has to have the vanilla additive to drink hers.

Some of my best coffee adventures were in Europe and North Africa; it is hard to beat a cup of Spanish Caffee con lache with a shot of cognac. ::)
