The 300 WM and 300 RUM are not rifles  but cartridges.

A favorite rifle of mine is a Kimber Montana in 308 Winchester.

I like a 308 cartridge in any rifle!

My favorite rifle is a 336 Marlin in 35 Remington.

Cartridge - 6.5x55 in a premium 1 in 8 twist barrel.   Rifle - Rem. 700 BDL.   Other rifles or calibers may be better for certain game but this is from my experience and for my use of the rifle and cartridge.  I have several Remington rifles and several rifles in 6.5x55 but I don't have a Remington in that caliber.

"Favorite" seems to change from time to time - usually it is the newest addition to the gun safe.
Currently, it is a Win. M70 in .300WM.  Bought it from a friend in Anchorage.  It shows a few scars from being carried in the Alaska back country.  I love a rifle with a 'history'.

My favorite rifle is a custom Springfield, too bad it is not chambered in my favorite cartridge, the 7x57.

While I love my Weatherby and TCR, the rifle I pick up every day is the H&R Handi in 30-06.  I have it with me everyday, with three boxes of shells.  125gr Speer TNTs, 165gr Sierria HPBT, and 200gr Nosler partitions, that covers everything I might run across.

As for cartridge, while I like the .223, and the 25-06, the 30-06 comes out on top every time.

A very early production Model 700 Classic in 30-06.  Wish I still had it but I shot it out or abused the bore.  It was a sweet rifle for about 25 years.  Best rifle I ever owned.  Still have the receiver in a 280AI.
