7x57 is my favorite cartridge. I have never found another
cartridge that performs any better on anything I hunt.
The only way I could judge what is my favorite rifle would
be to ask myself what would be the last one I would part with.
Winchester Model 94 Trapper in 30-30 win. would have to be my answer.
It is the first rifle I ever bought..

Favorite would be my custom 6.5x300weatherby AI with a 8twist bbl.. But if for some reason I was only allowed to have 1 gun. I would have to go with my ruger superblack hawk in 44mag. There is nothing you cant kill with it including birds!

The one in my hand! ;D
No, realy, the one that I shoot the most is a remington 700 ADL 270 win. in an beat up, heavy laminated stock with a but plate that must be related to a brick at some point. But it kills what ever the heavy nikon plex lands on. I actualy got it from a pawn shop with the scope already instaled. I never clean the barrel but it keeps on shooting near half inch groups.

I have decided when the barrel gose south and the bank acount gose north, it is going to become a 6.5-06 in a nice tan web synthetic stock. That would make one hell of a do everything package. And maybe a 338-06 as a big bruther down the road. ;D

Favorite Rifle: That changes from time to time, the one that comes up most of the time is a Rem 760 Carbine.

Favorite Cartridge: Would have to be the 30-06,  IMO it does it all.

Update: I needed to sell a bunch of stuff, that carbine is gone :'(
I got a 742 left in 30-06, not the best type of action when shooting cast .
I've got an Axis in 308 and so far it has not been tried.

My favorite rifle and cartridge is my Remington 700 BDL in .280 Remington. I have shot more deer with it than all other guns I own combined.

Based on the hunting that I do now, not in the past, I would say my G-2 Contender in the 6.8 Remington SPC, followed very closely by my Encore pistol in the 7.62x39.

Without a 2nd though BAR 30-06 out of what I own now.

Give a few months and it will be my Remington 700 CDL walnut stocked fluted 26" stainless barreled 264 Win Mag. with a Leupold VX-III 56mm.

T/C Encore in 260.

I have a Sako that I'm thinking about getting rebarreled to a 338-280ai.  If that project gets completed that may end up being my favorite.

All right what is everyones favorite rifle today? Changed? Well today mine is a 35 Whelen on an FN Mauser action. It's barrel in 19 inches long and so far it is my best hog gun. This time of year I target shoot with handguns and hunt hogs. My 7x57 has killed more hogs than any other rifle I know of that includes all my hunting buddies ( a rifle dear to my heart). The thing I like about using the Whelen are the damn good blood trails and the ability to break bones while still giving a good exit hole. It is topped with an 15 year old 4x Leupold. I'm thinking about putting a Bushnell Elite 3x9 on it to make it's night capabilities a bit better.

Blood Trail you mean Blood Splash lol. The last Hog I hit with my 35 Whelen and the Speer 250 Gr Hot-Core at about 130 yards went through both shoulders of that little 225LB Hog and put blood almost ten feet out and 2 feet wide. No Tracking needed there though lol. Fell on the Spot. :)

As for Favorite I am not sure yet. As I will be trying out my new Savage built .358 Winchester I hope in the near future. :) . But one thing is for sure at this time and that is I sure like those 35 Calibers. That 35 Whelen makes my 30-06 look sick lol.

I am also going to pick up a Ruger No.1 Stainless and Laminate in .243 and when funds are back up send it off to Jess to Re-Bore to the .358 Winchester and cut the 26" barrel down to 20" :)

My all time favorite is my Remington 700 Classic in .35 Whelen ( reamed out to the Ackley Improved). I had a Brown Precision High Country lightweight stock put on it, had all the metal coated with a baked on moly-something weatherproof coating (black). Shilen trigger set on 3#, It sports an NECG rear sight/factory front for back up, scoped with Leupold QD rings. I used a Leupold 1.5x5 on it for years, then went with a Bushnell Elite 3200 2x7 for wet weather, and a spare Weaver 1x3 for grins. I found a nice Mod 700 CDL stock on ebay, had it pillar bedded too. I use the wood stock in late season as it is warmer to hang onto! It has a "3 big holes out the sides, none on top/bottom" artillery style brake that is very effective ( surprisingly quiet to shoot, doesn't hurt my ears!). I had it put on after my neck surgery in 2000 and it came in real handy when it's in the synthetic stock. It weighs all up and loaded around 7# in the synthetic!
I have, have had, and still use other rifles, but this one has changed my life, ha. I have had adventures with it, shot some great animals with it, and it effectually replaced my 300/338/375 magnums. I just can't seem to cotton to any other 35 caliber rifle as I can handload this one to do what the others do! ha. My new Ruger 77 African in 9.3x62 is a sweetheart, and any Remington 700 Mountain Rifle just thrills me! BUT, this is the one that "just might" be put in the coffin with me when I die at 120!

My favorite is a Model 700 classic in 350 Rem Mag., the barrel has been cut back to 20" and it is topped with a Leupold 4x compact.  The stock is a factory remington  with homemade paint job, and an elk track for good luck.  It still wears the factory open sights, which is possible with the short compact scope.  Oh, and it hits like the hammer of thor.

Sorry Gang I still do not comprehend why the Hunting and Shooting public are not aware of how really  GREAT the .358 Calibers are.

Yes there were a few not so informed so called gun writers call them a Brush Cartridge lol. But I would have thought after people used them and found out that they are No Short Range Round in the .358 Winchester/ 35 Whelen/350 Magnum they would have taken off. And if the Gun Manufacturers would have used a decent twist rate on them. Like 1-14 or 1-12 instead of the silly 1-16 by Remington.

My 1903MkI Springfield customized with Timney trigger, my own stock, a custom turned bolt handle, and a Leupold V3 1.75x6 scope in 35 Whelen.  I have, and regulary use, 20 other rifles, but I keep going back to the Whelen on my old Springfield action (BTW I have other customized Springfields, but love the Whelen the most).

1. Varmit- my custom .22-250 now on its 3rd barrel/ or my custom .220 swift..both excellent shooters..both 700's
2.Varmit/antelope-my rebarreled ADL in .25/06....great long range, windy day, coyote rifle....since they are my favorite game this is one of my very favorite rifles...
3.Big Game-Custom model 700 in .300 Win. Mag..can do all an 06 or 270 can plus more...it is on its 3rd barrel and this one should out last me..
But as DP said, my favorite tends to be the one in my hands at the moment...from .22lr to .45-70.... :D
