I no longer like magnums. Been there and done that. Give me a 270, 280, 30-06 or 308 for larger animals and I can survive without more shoulder surgery. For deer, I like the 7mm-08 and 25-06.
As far as a favorite rifle, I'll opt for the Remington Model 7 in 308. Just about perfect for everything I need.

out of all my rifles to only pick one would be tough but id have to say my ruger 264 mag would probably get the nod. Ive never had a gun other then this one that has killed so many deer with nothing more then a bang flop, on the ground kills. Ive shot them from a 100 yards to 450 and it kills like lightening. Ive got guns that kick less guns that are more accurate guns that hit harder and even guns that shoot flatter but that 264 just sticks it to a deer. Sure its a bit much for deer season whitetail shooting when the ranges are usually under a 100 yards but with a bit of downloading it would work fine at that too.

I would have to keep the 30-06 if it came down to one rifle but I much prefer to play the field with specialized hardware sometimes.

I have sold all my rifles except my Weatherby MKV 300 Wby Mag, & my latest model Winchester Model 70 30.06 & my CZ550 American 9.3x62. They all have Warne Lever Mounts & Zeiss Scopes.. I love these rifles & will never sell them. I am most familiar with my 300 Weatherby & it is my sentimental favorite, but from a pure comfort point of view the CZ550 American is magnificent. It has the best feel of any rifle I have fired in 44 years of rifle shooting. I'd give it a 10 out of 10 for feel. .
My real favorite? Like my kids all 3 of them.. For allround the 30.06. for plains & across gullies & valleys, the 300. For big, ugly bite back critters, the magnificent 9.3x62 Mauser. I really need the 3 of them..

Toss up between a Model 70 Winchester, and a Marlin lever action. Both are highly functional and I like the lines of both. I suppose a 300 win mag would top the charts but honestly I could find something more suitable for any individual species or situation if I tried. In my mind it is the true do everything round.

In the last few years my favorite has become the 45 LC. Always liked it in a Ruger pistol and then got MGM to build me a 20 inch barrel for my Encore chambered exactly for this round. My hot Ruger/TC loads with 240 and 250 gr Hornady XTP's will touch 3 shot groups at 100 yards if I do my job. Terminal damage is awsome on these Bama whitetails. Hope to try it out on a hog next weekend. If I had to pick a second it would be my Savage Model 16 in 308.

U.S. Rifle, caliber .30, M1 (aka M1 Garand)
It's a little odd because I generally don't care to shoot semi-autos much, but I really like that gun.

Favorite cartridge is tough. I'm not sure I have one. I really like the 30-06, but I also really like the 25WSSM, and frankly the 22WMR is pretty great, too. I'm not sure I can declare a 'favorite' cartridge.

OK you .300 Win. Mag guys. Here's a chuckle for ya. Mine is my custom "Trotter Special" .32-20 Handi Rifle on BC Carbine stock set with a 22 inch .303 barrrel. It shoots bullets from .310 to .313, cast or jacketed, 70 gr to 125 gr. with deadly accuracy. I can load it cheaper than popcorn for velocities from 500 fps to 2300+. It'll take anything from red squirrels to whitetails.

The Handi Rifles are all my favorites and it's hard to pick just one. For every day just downright fun the little .32-20 is hard to beat.

I have the exact same rifle! Did yours come with the disposable Simmons 8 Point 3-9 scope? Coincidentally, I just bought a Ruger Hawkeye in 338 Federal for my oldest son. What are the odds? Do you have any favorite loads for the 338 Federal?

As a Mediumbore, it's gotta be the Sako 75, Stainless/Synthetic.

A simple, uncomplicated smooth action and adjustable crisp trigger, that will go down light.
Looks and feels good in the hand, too.

In my favourite calibre of .308 .
Very versatile, and plenty of choice with factory rounds, milsurp, and components,
and accurate too from 110gr V-Max to 185gr Lapua factory, with it's 1:11" twist.

I use winchester reformed 308 brass , Federal primers, Hornady 200 Sp with 47 grs. of Varget .Nosler accrubond bullets work well for this load as well .
Since this load has been proved as a flop over dead one shot deer round, I have not really tried much different . It shoots groups with the tikka and the deer never went far .

This week my favorite rifle is my Pedersoli rolling block, 12 lbs with that 30" barrel. Of course the favorite cartridge of the week is the 45-70, I have had six 45-70s, down to three now.

Currently, it's my Sako 85 Black Bear in .30-06, with a Swaroski 3-9X, on Sako Optilock detachable mounts. Light, well balanced and quick. Will do for most of my hunting. We're talking favorite rifle and cartridge here. I have several in and around the medium game/caliber range (why, I don't know), but this gun is definitely my current favorite. Just bought it earlier this year, so I haven't hunted with it yet. The .30-06 has always been one of my favorite calibers.

I got mad at the Ruger 77, its gone! So "now" my favorie is still my .35 Whelen AI as #1 and I just picked up my old Model 700 Mountain Rifle with refinished stock, 24" Shilen #2 match quality barrel, in 30.06. I just have to find what I did with the scope bases, then I can mount my Leupold 2.5x8 on it and get to work on load workup. I have some new Barnes 130gr TTSX that should hum out of this thing! I get fantastic accuracy and velocity with Varget and the Nosler 125BT from any '06 I've had. I'm hoping this rifle will get as good as the Nosler 125bt. Lots of folks don't care for them, but I 'deeply, madly, dearly" love these Barnes TSX and the TTSX! ha. Of course, I love the way the Woodleigh 240gr weldcores shot out of my last '06 too, and Nosler 200pt and so on, ha. I have yet to fin my camera cord to download some pics! I am still looking...

My favorite rifle is my Richard Marhoff drilling - 16x16ga over .22 Savage HiPower AI. It shoots a 70gr .228 bullet at about the same velocity a 22-250 shoots a 55gr. I have a couple of boxes of older Sisk premium hollow points and if I do my job the rig is a whitetail slaying mofo.
My favorite cartridge would have to be 30-06. No explanation required.

Hello RevGeo, I once had the opportunity to hunt some Gemsbok, and Springbok in Aroab, Namibia. Lots of South Africans drove over to that place to shoot these animals for their yearly meat. I was scrounging around in the bowl of cartridges/spent cases that most hunting camps have. I saw a .22 HiPower round and another one that had it's metric desgination, something like 5.56x57 or 5.56x53 I can't remember. But I mentioned it because the farm owner told me that many hunters used that round and like all "biltong" (meat hunters) shooters, they made head shots. I thought that was neat.

OK laugh if you want but my favorite gun is my Type 38 Jap. Arasaka.
It has been rebarreled in 260 Rem and has a Timney side safety triger. At 100 yrds it will clover leaf. At 200 yrds it hits under an inch and the gun is probably capable of better than that, but I am not. The gun is light weight, accurate and doesn't kick. I have taken 4 deer with it from 25 yrds to 280 yrds and have not had to track one yet.

Excellent choice of cartridge. Other rounds may come and go from my possession but there will always be at least one 22lr in my rack.

45-70gov. You made a goood point. I have always kept a lot of .22 ammo in the house. It's cheep and pleantyfull. And if some unforseen disaster should strike, a few thousand rounds of .22 would keep a lot of meat on the table.

I have a new favorite this week. Its actually going to be my son's rifle when he is old enough. It is a 358 Norma mag, rechambered from a 35 whelen, with 22" barrel dropped into a HS precision remington take off stock. Did I mention it is a remington 700. I topped it with a Leupold FXII 6x with the LR Duplex. I think it will be a whitetail and elk killing machine, I might have to try it out this fall.

7m-08 has become my favorite, with 260 Rem next. Of course, I will always love the 270/270 WSM..............
