That's great.  I got the impression that the Handi 22-250 was a hit or miss proposition - some a do and some a don't get good marks for accuracy.

"Well...200-400 yards isn't a real long shot in my area..so for pure fun...hmmm..a nice bull barrel 243 comes to mind..With the right load for it..getting in the .2's isn't difficult"

THE .2's?!  With a handi-rifle barrel?  That's a bit of a stretch.

with the right amount of trigger time all things are possible .

i haven't seen the pic in a long time i need to find that target and frame it.

How about this one..

It's not your 5 shot group..but should do well enough..

This is one of mine that was shot as fast as I could reload and shoot..I shot a total of 4  5 shot groups in under 3 minutes this session

The top 3 in this 5 shot group measure .118" ...and in non of 4 groups measured over .6"..

BTW...this is the same barrel..I sold it to mitchell (like a dummy)

I like my 22-250 very dead on. Just finely try some 40 gr out of her first reloads was 1 hole that you can cover with the size of the back of the brass. I thalt I was missing ;D Anyway I know the 300 win mag or was it 300 wdy mag can't remember Kick like hell but very dead on at long range.

That rifle was a Rem 700 Sendero 300 WBY Mag, I shot it too. ;) H&R may not be chambering any of theirs rifles for it anytime soon though. Recoil and muzzle blast were very significant. More so the blast!

I vote for the 25-06 or even a .270. Both should shoot a long ways out with good accuracy from a Handi rifle.

Thanks, Dinny

The smaller and lighter the bullet the more it is affected by wind drift.  The longer the range the more wind drift you get.  That is why I leave the 22-250 at home when I go out.  I never know what the range will be.  It can range from 40 yards to 500, or beyond.  But when the shot presents itself, it is usually fast.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I would think the 26" bbl handis would be better suited for the long range stuff , be it a 25-06, 270, 280 or a 30-06 (even though the 26" 30-06 is a custom job  (probably the best choice)

The OP wanted "fun". 45-70 BC is the fun one.

As for whether a Handi can be used long range or not (as one poster said they can't), I've seen 30-06, 25-06, and 270 Handis fired with effective accuracy at 500-1000 yards as well as the 45-70 BC (mine as well as two other locals).
If he's carrying a singleshot, don't expect a warning shot!

at the range he's talkin a few inches wont make a diffance i would just get something with low recoil and cheap ammo caz the more trigger time u get the better

Actually..he's already made his choice..

Well, I decided on the 25-06 barrel.  Got one on the way.  Will probably spiff up the factory crown (which often seem to be a little rought) and go from there.  May well pick up one of the new handi grip stocks when Midway gets them in a later this month (or so they say).  I am sure this thread could go on for a while, but I am satified for now - until the old itch comes back again.....

Not to bad of one..especially with the right bullets..It even can go a might further than 400 yards.. ;) :D :D :D ;D
