Last batch of perch
« on: March 10, 2010, 01:28:32 PM »
Well, tried to make them last. But, couldn't wait. Cooked up the last bag of perch from a head boat trip last fall. Beer battered fish, french fries, sweet corn, and to make sure we had enough, did about 8 barbacued chicken wings and legs too.(My youngest ate a couple, but the rest will be for tomorrow) Now that we have a boat, will give us incentive to get out early for some early season perch around the Toledo water intake. Since I did a gun show in Pa. a couple weeks ago, will enjoy a couple bottles of Yeungling to top off the evening. Wonder what the poor folks are eating tonight. gypsyman

Very nice mess of fish.
I didn't know that porgy were good to eat.  But of course I haven't heard anyone talk about them.

Many people up here prefer Perch over Walleye, but at that some think Sunfish are as good as it can get but large Sunfish are getting rare.

I'm with Bob Riebe, sunfish and crappie out of cold water are my prefered eating fish.

Or in mid summer, empty the live well of bluegills into a bucket, add a bag of ice and let them chill for the half hour trip home.

Mighty tasty!

I like  perch but prefer walleye or whitefish and if i had to pick one it would be pike out of cold water like lake superior.

I've thought about all the fish I've eaten, and I believe bluegill fried whole is my favorite. (without the head)
Down here, black folks will keep a fish 1" long.
they gut and scale them and fry them whole including the head.
An old black friend said they fry them crisp and eat them like potato chips.
