The states did leave one at a time. Each state voting to leave or stay.

Ahhh... but they joined a "Confederation".  My point is if Oklahoma decided to secede, that in itself is not against the Constitution.  Conspiring with Texas to do so would be.  Initiating hostilities would be too.  Of course, self defense is another issue.  If Texas mobilized it's National Guard in action against Mexico that would be against the Constitution as well.

Be interesting to see if Texas gets those Drones for surveillance.............could we hope for armed Drones?

This a most interesting thread.
I have seen it go at least four different ways---three are completely out of context to the original thought---and really are rather knee-jerk reactions and not much thinking involved.

We are all concerned with what our gov. is up too and its ultimate agenda.
We have seen what appears to be a loose agenda.
I am as much concerned that there is as much danger too over-reacting as I am too the agenda question.

As my company commander said to me in one of my many chewing outs, "Kid don't ask the first sarge WHY, he doesn't know WHY, all he knows is I told him to do it".  Obviously they wanted brainwashed non thinkers.

Several thoughts......1.) If Lincoln was concerned about the slaves, he would not have waited until it was obvious he was losing the war to write the emancipation proclamation.

2.) Perhaps the South was just "throwing off" the government that did not respond to them, and forming a new one, as the declaration says.

3.)  If the South had won the war and the division had continued, we might well have been overtaken by a foreign power.

4.)  Sometimes the providential hand of God is at work in the affairs of men and we cannot see nor understand it except in hindsight.  It was an absolute impossibility for us to win the Revolutionary war....but we did.   It was improbable that we couldl win the war of 1812....but a hurricane that descended on Washington, D.C. almost decimated the British fleet and ended things.  It seems impossible that we can overcome some of the things we now face...but I say ultimately it is in the hands of God.  We only need to do our duty and leave the rest to Him....

The US Military, though chain of command, and responsiveness to chain of command, are critical concepts, is unique.  It, for instance, trains its servicemen regarding lawful/unlawful orders.  In most militaries, there isn't such thing as an unlawful order.

They also train regarding a concept of "need to know".  In battle, speed is critical.  Sometimes we soldiers need to shut up and execute.  Asking why when it isn't mission critical for us soldiers to know "why" can cost the effort in many ways.

But, to say that American troop are somehow "automatons", non thinkers, is very inaccurate.  Quite the contrary, we are trained to adapt, reassembe, quickly reestablish chain of command, operate as independent units when necessary, etc.
