Canuck Suppliers wanted
« on: November 12, 2003, 10:44:04 AM »
Getting ready to make the big plunge into handloading my rifle ammo. Could I ask western Canadian Handloaders on this forum to provide me with a few good, reliable suppliers names? Powder, Primers, Brass and Bullets are what I need now.
Thanks

I know of a few reloaders in Burns Lake. They generally get their stuff out of the Wholesale Sports in Edmonton. Primers, powders have extra shipping charges so what most guys do is pool their orders together and when someone is heading back East get them to pick the stuff up on the way back.

I usually pick up my powder and primers at gun shows, which may not be convenient for you.  If I run short of bullet or brass between shows, I mail order from Wholesale Sports or Russell Sports, both of Calgary, SIR in Winnipeg if I'm desparate($$$$).

If your going to be doing a lot of shooting, one of the best places to get powder would be Higginsons. I've had excellent results with some of their very cheap bulk surplus powders. Last time I ordered some shipping was free if you bought a certain quantity.

That's a big help, thank you.  I've recorded them all.

I'm a little surprised there was no mention so far of a B.C. Supplier; does this indicate anything?

Thanks

No mention of BC suppliers? Being from BC I do try to shop locally but unfortunately when buy quantity I have found no where in BC that can even come close in price and inventory. I think it has to do with shipping costs of dangerous goods etc. I have never inquired up in Peace River country but have shopped in areas PG and South. Grandlunds firearms in Campbell River, BC have decent prices but no web address." The Powder Keg" in Kamloops also specializes in shooting stuff and might be worth an inquiry.

Gun shows are probably the best place to pick up odds and ends and get some great deals. You may want to get a copy or subscribe to "Canadian Access to Firearms". newspaper. Lots of deals in there.
