Help with a TC Rifle Barrel Problem
« on: March 11, 2010, 08:11:26 PM »
I just got a 24" TC .243 SS Barrel. after putting it on my Frame about the 4th-6th time I opened and closed it to check for Barrel fit I noticed one of the Ears {Lugs} had Broken off. It is the Part that Locks up the Barrel just below the Ejector, The Ear on the Right is still there to make the Trigger work, But the left side ear/tab Broke off.
The Barrel and Frame still Lock up Nice with out any noticable difference and the Hammer still Operates correctly.
What should I do.  Is this Part readily available, and can it be changed by just removing the Roll Pin?
Is this a TC Warranty Issue? Should I take it to a Gunsmith?
Is it Alright to Fire/use the Barrel in this Condition, Or Should I NOT Shoot the Barrel until Fixed?
I just would not want my Son or myself to get Hurt over something controlable, But yet at Times I Overworry about Nothing
Thanks in Advance and then Some.   Paul

The locking bolts for Contenders are available and replaceable by removing the roll pin.  I have never paid much attention to Encore's so I hope and Encore shooter chimes in.  I would not shoot any of my Contenders with a locking bolt problem.  I don't think it is safe.

If you call TC they will send you the parts.  You can also send barrel/frame to them and they will fit them.

Do Not shoot! That being broken is NOT safe! Call T/C they may send you the replacemant lug or they may have you send it in to be replaced and checked out to be sure it is safe to use. The lug is a simple thing to replace. You have to compress the lugs into the barrel a little to take tension off the roll pin drive it out and release the spring pressure carefully and replace the broken one and compress the lugs and reinstall the roll pin.

Don't fire it with the broken lug!  That is what keeps the barrel shut!  Call TC and they will send you replacement lugs (acutally they are bolts).  They replace very easily, just as described above.
