Here is a news story on Christopher Roads work on restoring the forts and arms in Oman. We have had a couple references on this work in the past.

I liked the part about- cannons and tourism. See, cannons can be a force for good.
PALADIN had a gun.....I have guns, mortars, and cannons!

Interesting.

a) to put Oman into google maps - instantly - you're there.  AND THEN TRY:

Bait Al Zubair Museum in Muscat

b) Muscat is also the name of a very thick skinned grape.

An interesting article, Douglas. I checked the Bait Al Zubair Museum site and couldn't find any photos of the two gifted cannons, but I did find this Fancy Rifle that should be of interest to you.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

DD; As you said, the name mentioned in the article is Christopher Roads, so I wonder if this is the same restoration work being done in Oman that Adrian Roads was/is involved with?
