Dip lube with LBT lubes
« on: March 13, 2010, 05:12:13 PM »
Veral, if I remember correctly, you had a dip lube design that predated Lee's, and have posted how to use your lubes as dip lube with low heat.  Are there velocity limitations and could you make your old design today?  I would be looking at .32 cal. Have a Marlin rifle and a couple revolvers in 32 H&R and I have ordered a Blackhawk in 327 Federal.  Related question; would there be any advantage in a 100gr sfn to go with a 120 or 125 gr lfn?

Thank you,  Scott A. Webb

Velocity limit for what I called tumble lube, before Lee 'inovated' the bullet design and concept, is around 1400 fps before leading starts.  This in temps up to about 100 deg F.  In cooler temps speeds can be run up some from that, and in real hot weather better keep velocity to 1200 fps or under.  The Marlin may deliver more speed. -- I suggest that you just smear blue soft on with the index finger of your master hand, just before seating the bullets.  It goes fairly fast, and supplies more lube, which will allow higher velocities when conditions are adverse.

I definately don't recommed an LFN for 32 cal bullets, as it has too much nose and meplat is too small for good killing effect.  Stick with the SFN for weights to 100 gr and the FN for 115 and heavier weights.
