Hog baiting pipe
« on: March 14, 2010, 10:30:40 AM »
Quite a while back someone had plans to make a hog baiting gadget from PVC pipe, a swivel and some cable. Does anyone remember where it might be? I searched but I can't locate it. I want to send the drawing to a buddy.
Thanks Qajaq59

Check with Kevin over at www.texasboars.com he used to make such feeders from pipe back when he was working with Jim Reed at the Reed Family Ranch. I saw them while I was out there hunting but danged if I remember the details of them. I suspect Kevin has some photos and details posted on his site tho and if not you could e-mail him and ask I'm sure.

I was pretty sure you would. I don't visit Kevin's site much anymore as my own takes more time than I really have to spare and I think Kevin is kinda the same as he rarely posts here anymore but we remain friends and help each other as we can.

I had never looked at his site before, but it's a good one. He's got a lot of info in there for hog hunters. And that pipe feeder is nice because you can build it cheap so if it gets stolen you don't lose so much money. I sent it on to my buddy and he's going to build one of them for his property. If he can bait them in maybe I can hunt from my chair as my days of walking around looking for them are over.

This is one of my pig toys made out pf junk  PVC pipe.   This one had too many holes:  The hogs emptied it
too fast, hence the tape.  One end cap is knocked on and off with a hammer so it can be filled.  The cap that the chain is attached to was glued on with PVC cement but the hogs threw the pipe around so violently that it came off.  It is now attached with self tapping screws.

Do not use cable.  It gets all twisted up and tangled from the hogs throwing the toy around.

I built a couple of em. Put a threaded endcap on one end to refill, and drilled a hole in it and put an eye bolt with a lock nut to hold it in. They work very well and have  drawn in some pork chops!  ;)
