value of winchester 94

Thinking about doing a trade with my dad hes got a standard winchester 94 .30-30 with a 20 inch barrel and factory open sights id out the condition at about 98% my dad sais he bought it he thinks in 1971 it doesnt have that extra safety thing. whats it worth?

Locally they sell for $300-$400 at gun shops which mark up the $ to their profit margin.  I woudl say start with $250 as a $ deal between family members.  I can tell you that in 1971 it was less than $100.

I'm having the same problem myself...

In southern California, that rifle, in that condition, would be worth $450.00.

How much is your dad worth to you? If you want the rifle, ask him what he wants for it, and then pay the man his price. It's not like your shopping at a hock shop, or some other for profit place...!

he asked for me to find out the value sorry if that bugs you he didnt know how much it was worth and neith did i figured i could ask a simple question. i am trading him a pistol and wanted to know if it was a fair trade

common sense is slowly becoming uncommon... ?     

if it's your Dad, and you both want to use each other's guns ... why put $ amounts on them... ?

in our family if one member wants one to use another's equipment for a while he/she just uses it ... and maybe eventually puts it back

Regardless how one feels about it, he asked an honest question and deserves an honest answer!

Depends on where in the US it is.
Some parts don't have much use for a lever action.
Other places they would jump on it.
Here in my part of VA a near new Win 94 will always bring $300.00 to $375.00.
It has to be beat up some to drop much below that.
The local gun shows are asking about $25.00 to $50.00 more.
Since Win changed hands the price has climbed some.
The 29th edition of BLUE BOOK OF GUN VALUES lists it at $350.00 in 98%.

I bought a new Ted Williams (94 with different label) with a Weaver 3x on a side mount from that timeframe for $245 2 months ago from a dealer. Was a consignment gun and they take $90 for consignment. That version was slightly newer and had the cast lifter, and no safety. I live in lever country. Well, used to be, no one wants them now. The local dealers just put them on Gunbroker.

I agree with Lanfer dont worry with price, if you both want each others guns then just trade and be happy nowing that each of you got what you wanted. As far as $ goes 300.00-350.00 is about right. What kind of pistol do you have?

FWIW, I wouldn't sell mine for $1 million, but if my grandfather who raised me asked for it I would give it to him no questions asked with the understanding that if he ever didn't want it anymore I got it back.
