Good day but no game.

FINALY! A good day to get out. It has been too warm, too cold, too windy for too long. But today  dawned nice.  Started about -10 and light breeze. Warmed up fast tho. After church the boys and I loaded up the snogos and headed to our cabin with some stuff and our 22s. I had finally got the hot grips and gauntlets on the new Bravo and it had enough easy break-in time around the yard. The Arctic Cat slides were replaced and the upper rear bogeys bolted back on. So a bit of a shake down run and an opportunity to use my new Garmin Legend HCX that replaced the old legend that broke off its tether and disappeared into the snow - waypoints and all. Hadn't been to the place since the end of December moose season. Yesterday's wind really blew around Friday's new snow so traveling was rough (probably smooth by Rex's standards). Everything ran well. Wasn't too hard to chip away the snowdrift covering the door. Even  melted snow for the boys' hot chocolate.  Thermometer on the tree outside the cabin read +28!!! Nice day. We found some ptarmigan tracks, grouse tracks and a few rabbit tracks but nothing standing in those tracks to shoot. What I get for a late start. The boys (9 & 12) had fun - I love following behind them watching them bomb along rifles on their backs, my little Native Hunters. But now we need to collect some meat. Next time. Hope it stays cold and nice. Wish I didn't have meetings this week.
