25-5 year of mfg ?
« on: March 17, 2010, 12:26:13 AM »
I've got a really nice 25-5 chambered in 45 Colt headed this way, it is blue with a 4" unpinned barrel and is serial number A J S 8 * * *.

Can someone give me the aprox. year of mfg ?

Thank you.....Ike

This site has a fairly comprehensive list of SW Model changes and shows that the Model 25-5 was introduced in 1978 and the Model 25-7 came out in 1985.  Short of calling Smith and Wesson with the exact serial number, I don't know how you're going to determine the specific date.

the 25-5 was produced between 1978 and 1988.  the barrel pin was deleted in 1982.  the 3 letter serial numbers are a little hard to track, but it looks like yours falls in the mid 1985 area.
