want advice on caliber choice
« on: November 13, 2003, 09:37:47 AM »
I have a T/C contender super 14 in 45-70 caliber.  I am planning on getting another barrel to use for javalina, (a collared peccary, adult weight 35-60 pounds).  I was considering 223, 7-30 waters, or 30-30.  I have not been able to find a comparison of theses calibers,  and would welcome any information and/or advice on these choices.  Thanks, pj

FWIW, both a pard in Scottsdale and myself use 221 Fireballs for cactus pigs, and never had any fail to drop like a rock.   We both have Bullberry 12" barrels, and I also shoot an XP-100 Fireball.   So from your choices, the 223 would be way more than enough gun.
