quick question
« on: March 17, 2010, 04:52:20 PM »
i am wondering if there is something in the design of the current model rossi rifles that prevents bbls from being fit like the handi rifle
and is the 22lr/410 combo an offset design because of the 22lr bbl. any help would be appreciated

My understanding is that different barrels will fit the action, but they may or may not lock up properly or fire accurately.  I suppose if you could field test the barrel before you bought one, you could conform its form, fit and function that way.

Your .22 barrel is offset.  That's how they're able to fit rim fire and center fire barrels to the same action.

Hope this helps.

sounds like the same as the NEF guns and wish they would make a standard frame and that for all these guns so could just fit them and go thanks for the info

The 22/410 Rossi frames are different from the other Rossi frames.  They take the same internal parts but are narrower, so a .243 barrel will not fit on the 22/410 youth frame.  I have the combo and I make a 22 Mag out of the 22 lr barrel and put a barrel stub into the .410 and made a 22 Hornet out of it.  Larry

i was wondering more about starting with a 12ga/30-06 matched pair and then try and find a 22lr bbl and have it fit what do you think.

As Graybeard says "i don't give legal advice" but here is some.......don't believe anything I say in THIS post.

Ihave Rossi, .308, 30.06 matched, and 270.  Ok, riddle me this one.  All have same head correct?  Interchanging these barrels to frames "should work ok" and I have personally played with my digits and arms and eyes in doing so...270 on .308 receiver.  That being said I have (believe this part) NEVER swapped an other barrels.  The 20 gauge doesnot go on the 270...the 12 not on the 308 etc.  I will NOT change anything to the .223.

Maybe I am all wet and an idiot (has actually been proven before) but if same head diameter and thickness then only difference is in tolerance on closed shoulder correct?  If a tight lock up is achieved, I mean tight lock up.  How is this putting any exces danger?

You may delete if too "out there" and flipant in responce......I se this as shooting someone elses reloads.  DANGER is expected.

.22 on 30.06????  I doubt it ......and don't have a .22 barreled rossi.....yet.  That .410, .22 combo is screamin for me to buy it and leave it permanent at the shck for a fun toy.

Ifyou meant FIT THE BARREL to your 30.06.....why pay someone to fit it.  Just buy one.....410/22 combo is what $120?   Just buy one.

I have a youth 22/20 and an adult 12ga slug. I bought a 17hmr here. All of the barrels interchange & lock up well on both frames. Maybe I'm lucky, but I've not had that good of luck with NEF stuff. I put a red dot on the 17 & shot it today, it does well out to 100 yards. It's a great short range, carrying rifle. I have a heavy bull Marlin bolt in 17HMR if shooting for groups.

These guns are priced so cheaply I see little point in swapping barrels, just buy another complete factory gun in the caliber/gauge you want.

but hard to carry several guns over extra bbl in bag and not sure how much difference in price there is between them
