17 Hmr barrel
« on: March 18, 2010, 01:23:11 PM »
Just sighted in my new (blue used 14inch) 17 hmr barrel for my G2. What a blast. I had a ton of fun with that thing today. My kid put down his Marlin and started shooting the Contender. Started out sighting it in at 50 yards, Bushnell 2-6 scope. When it was finally on I would consistently get 2 touching dead center on a red bulleyes 50 yard small bore target. There was always a third shot, dead center, 1/2 inch high. I assume that it was the cold bore. This is the group I got four times in a row before we started plinking. Plinking at 100 yds breaking clay target pieces. Can't really explain it, but this is a fun setup! The 44mag barrel is gonna get jealous.

Those 17's are addictive as H#!! I have both the HMR & Mach2 and they are amazingly accurate.

The HMR is on the left and now wears a Weaver 6-24 scope and the Mach 2 wears a Weaver KT15.  Put a rifle scope on it and you'll be amazed at how really accurate they are and what tiny small groups you can shoot ;D

thats a nice looking setup with those two. I may save up for alittle more scope, maybe after the summer. Wally world has some CCI 17hmr on sale. I'm gonna pick up a couple and see how the CCI shoots. The Hornady was really consistent. I don't know what the ballistics are with a 14 inch pipe, but I didn't have any problem 50-100yds with a 50 yd sight in.

I've been very happy with Hornady, It'll shoot more accurate than I can hold ;D I use it to shoot our clubs "Sucker Match" which is shot at 50 & 100yds. These are small "DumDum" suckers about 3/4inch in dia. The 17HMR needs no scope adjustment for these and it's good for "Minute of GolfBalls" out to 150yds ;D
