Found a Wesson replica muzzleloader rifle today...

$73 in a pawn shop.  Just read it's got a 1in22 twist barrel.   Won't work with patched roundball.  Didn't know that when I bought it.  Maybe why it was so cheap.  So what do I shoot in it please?  Or did I waste my money. 

Sights are terrible, but I can fix that OK, as long as I can get it to shoot.  How about maxi balls?  Anyone?  Thanks...

seems like like maxi's, mini's, or sabots oughta work. light loads with patched round ball might surprise ya. post a pic or two and someone will probably offer to give your money back ;D. my opinion and you're welcome to it. have a good'en neighbor, bubba.

Variations of that rifle have been made over the years, I'd measure the twist myself rather than relying on what I've read, I don't think they are all the same. I've seen a couple of guys shoot patched round balls from Wesson rifles with good accuracy so I doubt they all had a 22" twist.

Shoot longer ML rifle bullets as that twist notoriously doesn't shoot short pistol bullets well (sectional density has a lot to do with it and that's rocket science to me), but that doesn't mean it won't shoot them......

Holy Black (of course), but darned if I could suggest a bullet/ball diameter -  .40" ?  .45"?

That Sir, looks like a good deal, even if you only use it for a wall hanger.....but I bet she will shoot. ;)

HEY   :o ....... After seeing your pic, I just realized I had one of those for a short time, back in the 1970's.   :-[

The one I had didn't have a patchbox, though, IIRC.

I don't think I ever fired it, because I could find neither bullets nor mold that fit it, at the time - which is why I didn't keep it very long.

There's a similar .45 rifle, for sale over on the traditional Muzzleloading forum - but, it's a little more then $73  ;)
