SCP, I think it's a fine idea. I have, however seen the homade camo thing go terribly wrong. I've also seen some examples where folks have used cardboard stencils of leaves and such hot-glued to sticks to keep from getting paint on you and they ended up with something that looked like commercial hunting camo, really cool! How artistic are you and the boys? I'd treat it like a modelling project, get on google images and look or maybe down to the hobby shop and look at some military modelling magazines, that sort of thing. Try to have a plan of sorts is what I'm getting at I guess. You will use a lot more of your base color (probably olive) than the other 2 colors (I'm guessing brown and tan).
