Hornet on the Way!!!
« on: March 19, 2010, 10:03:47 AM »
well Ive finally found a hornet, had to order online which I really dont like, but its done.

I am so dang excited for this sucker to get here, the next 5-10 days are going to be very very LONG!!!!

Been kicking around the idea of making this a shorty rifle, but havent decided yet,  was thinking 16.5 to 18"  maybe a collapsable stock and a set of fiber optics, or a red dot.

If I do get it cut, how much do I loose on a hornet, Ive never chronied any of my guns, but do have a 10" contender for the hornet and it seems to shoot fast enough to put the smack on things. From what I recall its a pretty efficient round so couldnt loose a whole lot of snuff.

I guess I have some time to ponder this until it gets here. Now Ill need my 30-30 and Im off to look for a rimfire today, (my bday gift to myself) maybe a 17hmr, and that one may just get cut down too, I liked what ive seen done in the rimfire section, seems fun.

Take care all,
Dave

I wouldn't think it would hurt a hornet. Like you said, it is very efficient round. I've read that .223 rem doesn't start to lose it's umph until you get down to 17-18", so I think the hornet should be fine, and that would be quick handling...a varmint's nightmare!

Im hoping itll be a varmints nightmare, That is going to be its job. I wanted a small light fast gun for killing skunks and coons off the property, and one that I can carry with if I decide to make a few stands with a shotgun.  The other rifles get a bit bulky when I am out with both and my contender is nice but want something a bit more solid, ie bipod.

Itll be my "truck" gun, and the 30-30 im planning the same thing, will be the "truck gun" during deer season LOL but that will have the BC stock set!

I just cant wait!

Dave

I cut my Hornet to 16 1/4" and put the ATI stock on it plus a scope. It my most fun gun to hunt with from grouse to deer.

If you dont mind could you post a pic, may give me some ideas!
what Kind of scope are you using, I was thinking either a 1-4 or a red dot.

I got the jitters the minute I saw that sucker for sale LOL!
Its hard not too, these things are just way to fun!
