The SI is comparable to the Nikon Prostaff, the SII is more like a BuckMasters, at least that's my "view" on them, I have all of them. There are other Sightron lines too, the SII Bigsky and SIII neither of which I've used.

How clear are they Tim..?

What would be your choice..Have you heard how the new Redfield's eye box is...? Is it closer to how the Leupold's are with the larger eye box..? Is the Sightron's similar?

I have a 3-9x40 Redfield Revolution, but I haven't mounted it yet, it's probably closer to the VX-1 Leupy with a little smaller eye box, same eye relief, clear and bright edge to edge.

The Sightrons are made in Japan, btw.

For the money, the Redfield is likely the best buy.

Some additional info on the Redfield...
Just got back from the range with my Redfield 3-9x40 mounted on a 336 30-30.  It was real clear and adjusted exactly as I expected it to as I got it "on paper" at 100 yds.  I was also shooting my Handi 243 with a Nikon prostaff 3-9x40 and so had some direct comparison.  Granted it was a perfect day, clear, sunny, light winds so not the best for comparisons.

However, after shooting both, I am liking the Redfield better than the prostaff.  Both were clear.  The redfield seemed to have a more pronounced reticle, yet was small enought at the center for precise aiming.

Both functioned fine, but my liking was on the Redfield today.  I plan on doing some low light clarity comparisions with these two scopes in the future, off the back deck.

Sorry but I can't speak to the Sightron.

Redfeild is made in the USA. I will be going with Redfeild for my economical scopes.

Redfield is NOT made in the USA. It is simply assembled here, just like the Leupolds.

I stopped in a local gun shop and picked up a new Redfield 3-9x40 the other day. I'm going to mount in on a .357 or .44 magnum rifle for my son (when I can find the gun I want). Until then, I mounted it on a muzzleloader and took it to the range.

First off, the fit and finish is of good quality. The optics are clear and crisp (even in low light) and the adjustments are sure.

Having mounted it in a set of Warne rings, I went to work. I shot the muzzleloader about a dozen times to get things sighted in (and play a bit) and everything is locked in and good to go.

While it certainly wasn't an endurance test, the scope adjusted easily, held those adjustments, provides plenty of eye relief and again, the optics are crisp and clear (even in low light). IMHO, it's represents a tremendous value in optics.

BTW,  I may be wrong, but I thought the Redfields were manufactured in Oregon, not just assembled.    Here's a link...http://redfield.com/redfield-story/

Either way, Leupold is supporting the redfield scopes w/a lifetime, transferrable warranty....I don't see how you can go wrong.

My mistake I assumed that when they are advertised as made in Oregon that they were made here. But I guess at least they are assembled here better than made and assembled in china.

Mac,

Don't have a Sightron but I put a 3x9x40 Redfield on one of my 45 70s and so far so good.  The optics are nice and the adjusters do not require a coin or screw driver to set.  It is at least equal to my 3x9x40 Leupold Rifleman Slug/MZ scope and about $70 cheaper.  I could do without the big red "R" on the side but other than that no complaints.

Double klick on that. I put a Redfield 3x9x40 on a 12ga. slug gun and forty rounds of hot hand loads later the scope is holding up perfect. Can't help you on the Sightron.

Redfield is made in Oregon.  Redfield is now owned and built by Leupold at the Leupold factory in Oregon.  Straight from the Leupold/Redfield factory Rep at the ShotShow.  They are using Leupold parts, just not the top of the line new parts.  Leupold bought the Redfield name to use as direct competition with imported Chinese products.  Good, reliable, simple and Made In Oregon, U.S.A.
