Anyone have one of these??? My nephew is gonna get one and has not heard a bunch about these. Any hands on experience would be appreciated. I know they just released them

No experience here, but a link to Savage site. It has a detachable magazine, and the action looks a little different. It has a low price too.

Oh, i've been waiting a few weeks now for them to come in my area to. I do know of them being sold on Gunbroker for $300 shipped, but if their selling them that at that price online i'm curious what the price will be in stores.

Best bet is to hold out on them just alittle longer, i'm sure they'll even be in wal-mart for a cheap price once they ship them all out.

I found 2 of them today at Durams. They had one in the 223 and one in the 22-250. The on sale price is $305.00 there and it comes with a Bushnell 3x9x40 scope on it. I need a Groundhog rifle that will reach out there a bit and I think I am going to put the 22-250 on layaway tomorrow after work. At that price it is hard to pass up. I just hope it shoots well

and I am not blowing my money on a piece of crap rifle. They also had the Stevens there for $300.00 and I held one for the first time today. The stock seemed way to flimsy for me and the Edge felt much better. I will let you know in a couple weeks how it shoots. Dale

just from my experience with the 200s i would get the 200. stock is not an issue and parts are interchangeable with so many other savage products

You must be reading my mind. All night I been thinking about that. I could just change out the stock and trigger and probably have a great rifle if I were to get the 200 Stevens. There are allready many aftermarket parts for these rifles out there now and no aftermarket parts for the Edge as of yet. I would probably be better off getting the Stevens 200. What model Savage does the 200 Stevens take after? Is it the 110? Thanks Dale

The short action Stevens is the Savage 10.
The long action Stevens is the Savage 110.
I agree about the stock being flexy on the 200 but it's an easy upgrade. For the money I don't think the 200 can be beat. I can't wait to try out my new 22-250.

i'm thinking about a laminated stock for my 200. but only for the look/ feel of the stock. the accuracy is not affected in my .223 stevens. fired 2 shots at a 185 yd target i could cover with my thumb last week. not cause i'm good but because this rifle is so consistent

Well I ended up putting a Stevens 200 XP 223 on layaway today for $300.00. They did not have one in the 22-250 or I would have got that one insted. I guess the 223 should be ok out to 400 yards or so for Groundhogs and there are not many times I need to shoot any further than that. I think I will change out the stock and trigger at some point down the road. I sure hope it is a shooter. Dale

Dale, have the shop order you a 22-250 instead of the 223. You'll get alot more bang for the buck. Factory ammo is just about the same price for either one.

I asked and they said they could not do it.

Don't let the shop pull a fast one on you. If you want a 22-250 tell them so... it's your hard earned money... get what you want, not what they have in stock. It shouldn't be any problem at all for them to get you a different gun.

How much of a gun is a person geting for 225.00 starting bit on gunbroker.U cant buy a h&r handi rifle around here for that they are like 280.00 i was wondering if there going to shoot as good as the 200s do? or just makeing a cheap gun for these first time deer hunters to run out and buy a cheap gun and hope they kill a deer with it,i guess time will tell, i like the detachable mag though

I just ordered a stevens 200 in 22-250 from walmart the other day , price was $310 .....But since the wife works for them .. came to less than $300 out the door

. Only down side is our local store doesn't carry firearms anymore so I had to drive 40 miles to a different store $:-\$

Got out today and had a chance to shoot the new Edge a few times. Bore sighted a 4x12 Simmons 8-point at 100 yards. 2 shots to dial it into 1" above center. Shot 1st 3-shot group (shots 3,4 & 5 from the gun) and had a 1" group with 50 gain Speer & 25.5 grains of Varget. 2nd 3-shot group was 60 grain Sierra HP and 20 grains of 4198 = 0.58", 3rd 3-shot group was with 60 grain Nosler & 20 gr of 4198 = 0.66". These were just some loads I already had and wasn't trying to develop a load for it.

Trigger is about 6lb so that would have some little impact, I suppose.

Magazine is excellent. Just have to be sure you hear the click when you insert it. It is easy to not get it engaged. You can load it single shot but it fed without a glitch. I really like the smooth line of the stock. Stock fits well. It is a little thin but didn't notice it. I was shooting several, all 700's, 1 ADL with original wood, and 2 with plastic stocks. Didn't really notice significant difference from the Edge to the 700's.

I just decided to mess with the trigger. I pulled it apart and replaced the trigger return spring with one from a ball point pen. WHERE would we be without ball point pens. It reduced the trigger pull from above my gauge's range (about a hard 6 lb) down to about 3 1/2 lb. I didn't want to modify the original which is cone shaped on the top. I cut the end off the ball point pen spring, stretched out about 2 coils and fed it up through the trigger housing. Pulled it in tight so about 1/2 of the original spring extended below the trigger onto the housing.

When you take it apart you will see it just pushes up on the trigger and hence down on the sear in the front. All it does is assure engagement of the sear. So, it isn't a case of an uncontrolled fire but would just release the firing pin as the bolt is closed, same as holding the trigger. So, it isn't creating an unsafe condition at all. And 3 1/2 lb is just about where I wanted it. not a bench gun but will be a hunting gun.

Overall I am 100% satisfied with the firearm. But I really would have liked to see a basic adjustable trigger.

I think anyone that wants a basic rifle in one of the calibers avalable had better get one before the prices go up. I got mine for $308 out the door with 2 Weaver 46 mounts.

Nice reporting here

I saw my first Edge a couple days ago in my favorite local shop; it was the first I'd seen or heard of them. Normally, I'm all over the SHOT show stuff and new guns every year, but this one completely slipped under my radar

It is definitely an interesting gun to be sure - I like the detach box, big safety, and target-like stock. I have to say, LOP seems a tad long on these guns, much more so than the Stevens 200 for instance. Trigger seems to be the same as all the other old style 10/110 models, and can improved fairly easily. For the cost of the gun, you really can't complain; the ones I saw were priced around $280, maybe less - leaves plenty of money for ammo, an optic, and a good aftermarket trigger if you like

Really seems like Savage is shooting themselves in the foot with this gun though: they are undercutting their bargain brand (Stevens) with the Edge line

Maybe they will offer a Stevens version that will somehow, don't ask me how they could manage it, be even cheaper than this lol.

One can always load a 22/250 to .223 velocity and have the best of both.
