my 223 accuracy. WOW!!!
« on: March 21, 2010, 08:39:02 AM »
So I got out to the range yesterday to sight in my handi 223. all I can say about this is wow. I have a 6x40 konus scope on it, very impressed with this scope. I shot about 10 shots to zero it in, granted I was on a 50 yd range but wherever I pointed it hit. Had 2 bullets in exact same hole.  :o Cant wait to pull down on ground hog with this one. On the bad side of the day my buddys brand new savage 93r17 failed to fire. Out of 15 rounds five went bang, then would not do anything else. Put misfires into another savage they all went bang. Tried honrnady and cci, same thing with both. needless to say its on its way back to savage for repair.

If it is brand new, send it in for repair. Call first.

Great shooting...I like being on the 50 yard too, it takes considerable time to walk the 100 yard a dozen times in a session...maybe the exercise is good for me, oh well..."I'm going out walk dear...won't be too long". Any pics of the rifle and/or targets? I will be getting a 223 this year (when I get a job). Great report. Interesting info about the Savage too.

On the Savage-- I have one and it had the same problem. The firing pin is a stamped part and has a "seam" on the end that hits against the breech while the stepped part hits the rim of the shell. The seam needs to be filed back a few thousands just to square it up and it should work fine. Just be careful not to take too much off. Or shoot it for a while and it will flatten itself out but who knows how long that will take. Mine hasn't misfired or gave me any problems since I did that to it.

OOPS - I see you sent it back since it was brand new.

Shooting good at fifty, glad to hear it.  Now get busy and finish the job, go on out to 100 yards and cloverleaf them.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
