Trip to my local Dicks Sporting Goods Store
« on: March 21, 2010, 01:22:28 PM »
I have not looked at Handi's at Dicks though I was in there one other time. (Green Bay Wisconsin Store) They had one employee handling the firearm counter with one person filling out the 4473 form so I didn't get to explore as much as I wanted to.

They had three Illion made rifles stocked. One was a 22-250 with either 24 or 26" barrel. The other two were .308 with 22" barrels all were camo stocked. I got to handle one of the .308's and the one I checked out locked up tight with no visible gap between breech and barrel face. No side play when the receiver was opened and barrel tipped down.

I did notice that even with my leatherman tool I could not remove the forend screw. ( I did not want to strip the screws head) It was torqued super tight and looked like it bit into the forend material. I'm assuming that neat camo stock and forend is wood with the camo design painted or dipped or something similar. I really like the stock and forend but wonder if that screw was gorilla applied at the factory or at Dicks? Well I have one other Dicks to try out in Appleton Wisconsin.

Edited to add that all were scoped and $260 sale priced.

It's plastic, not wood.

Not neccesarily, I have a brand new set of factory camo wood stocks I bought and have never put on a gun. I was thinking of them for a turkey gun setup but have not gotten around to it....<><....:)

The Dick's combo rifle stocks are the same as the new checkered synthetic stocks that come on the 357 and 44 mags, just camo , factory part numbers and prices are in the FAQs.
