Pressure rating for cowboy action loads??
« on: March 21, 2010, 06:24:00 PM »
I have a question I haven't been able to find an answer for while searching through the site.  What is the standard CUP pessure for cowboy action ammo?  The reason I am concerned about the pressure instead of the FPS is that dad and I have both pick up conversion cylinders for our 1858 c&b revolvers and the manufacture is very adament that you not use ammo loaded above black powder/cowboy action pressures.
I would like to work up some loads with 200, 255, and 300 grain cast bullets using either 5744 or trailboss powder.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a link that should help , it gives some info on what the pressures are for Black Powder so you can load accordingly with either powder you listed , myself , I love TrailBoss in the 45 LC .

stimpylu32,

Do you use TrailBoss only for Cowboy Action shooting or will it work in the 45LC for heavy loads using the 45-270-SSA boolit?

Also, I went to the website you listed and I question the CUP/PSI listing.  They seem to show them as the same--Don't think that is so...
