Tamer 410 - opens upon firing
« on: March 22, 2010, 12:53:06 AM »
Recently picked up a Tamer in .410
My first box of shells federal 2 1/2 #6 about a third of the shots opened the breech when I fired.
I polished the machining marks out of the surfaces that hold the breech closed but the release lever does not go all the way forward when the breech is closed.
Anyone else had this problem and how did you correct it.

Cheers
Millsy

take the forarm off and try to close it,  see if the latch catches without it

See Pop Open Medicine and the Handi Basics 101 in the FAQs and Help sticky. You don't want to be messing with the latch or latch shelf if you don't have a clue what you're doing, the barrel release button isn't supposed to be all the way up, nor is the latch supposed to go all the way forward, proper latch engagement is shown in the barrel fitting info in the FAQs. More than likely you're not closing the action firmly enough as directed in the owner's manual, or there's oil on the latch/shelf, it should be clean and dry. Polishing the latch shelf will defeat the friction fit that is required for it to work properly.
