GP100 in 357 Mag. Later years it was a Taurus 9MM. A lot easier to carry than the GP100.

An SP101 3" in .357 - Just the right size, small enough to constantly carry yet large enough be comfortable with full .357 loads. Did I mention it's accurate?

Smith&Wesson Model 66-2 in 357mag. It's a bit heavy for concealed carry. But I like it's stopping power. For C.C. I use a KBI copy of the german Walther PP in 9x18mm Mak.

For every day and every where, it's a Ruger SP101 357 3". I bought it used acouple of months ago. Like others have said it's just right. It appears to have replaced a glock 33, s&w 19 and a s&w 442.

As others have mentioned, my most used/go to guns are my Ruger SP101 357 mag 3" or my S&W 60-4 38 Spl 3 inch. Either gun will do anything I want/need to be done.

Colt Diamondback 4" 38spl. is the one I love, but a Rossi 4" 357 mag is the one I tote. It is fairly accurate and easy enough to replace if ever confiscated or lost.

For Hunting big game WITH a revolver, my 629 Performance Center with a 7 1/2" barrel and Burris 2X Posi-lock scope. For hiking, or as a sidearm when hunting, my 629 Mountain gun with 4" barrel. Either way, nothin but Smith.

Dan Wesson Mod 15 or 744 (357-44 mags) would be my choice, not my Smith's. But under normal conditions it's my Glock 20 & 29, the 29 for CCW and the 20 for under the pillow.

Depends on the situation...

To go down to the convenience store , I drop a stainless Taurus in .44Spl in my jacket pocket.

For hiking and woods bumming, usually a S&W 57 in .41Mag or a S&W 25 in .45Colt.

Hunting groundhogs...S&W 686 Silhouette 8-3/8" in .357Mag.

When I carry a DA for big game hunting it is usually a 6" Dan Wesson stainless in .44Mag. Sometimes a S&W 29 Classic w/8-3/8" barrel.

My "go to" is my Smith & Wesson Model 29 4" blued .44mag - pinned & recessed - action ...smooth as butter.

Second choice is a Ruger Redhawk 5 1/2" either a .45colt or .44mag.

For a walk in the woods, my Red Hawk or Virginian Dragoon both .44 mag go along. Hunting, I use my RSB or Red Hawk (both scoped). The S&W Mod 10 loves a day in the pasture. The one I most often grab is a Taurus 441 4" stainless, .44 spec. It loves 240 laser cast with 7.5 g of Unique. I have seldomly felt like I needed more. However we have big bears here in Idaho. The .44 mags have the horse power to end an arguement.

For concealed carry on road trips outta California, if I don't grab the Kimber 3" 1911, it'll be one of the J-Frames. Most recent trip to Nevada and Oregon last week it was a Model 442 "No Lock." Sometimes a Model 351PD, sometimes something else with Barami gips. Depends on what catches my eye in the safe.

If I feel like a DA revolver at the range, lately it's been an old Model 10 snubby, which is about the easiest short gun there is to shoot accurately double-action. Other times I'll shoot a J-Frame to keep in practice.

For general purpose its my 4" Smith 65. Shoots dead on with Winchester .357 Silvertips and my load using 296 with a 140 gr jhp. Concealed, my 638 with plus P 158gr lhp's, thisun will be the handgun I'll still have when i die.

Try the pawn shops. I went pawn shopping once in a fairly small town and came across 3 or 4 in 8 3/8''bbls. I have seen 4 inchers and 6 inchers and I bought a 6 1/2'' Classic Hunter used at a small,"buy, sell, trade", type of gun shop. I got a M57,4", pinned and resessed for 250.00, like new, a few years ago at a PS. I was just looking around online before I came here and saw quite a few for sale. Shooters cost a little less than a new safety lock type model. But they are better than the new ones if you can find a good one. The collectors are getting way up there in price. I just looked at a special order 3" that the guy wanted over 1,600 for. I have been fortunate to get all the ones I've owned for cheap before the prices shot up. I can't afford another one now. Too pricey for me. ( Although, if I could get a good deal on a factory limited run 3" from the 1980s, I might have to sell something to buy it.)

I have a friend who own's a pawn & gun shop and I am in the shop two or three times a week, and I visit most of the small shop's in the area. But it's not a metro area, so we don't see a lot of the classic high end guns.

Keep visiting and expand your search. Im afraid that as this non'recovery' continues the owners of many desirable things are going to become more desperate. I dont like to take advantage of someones misfortune, but by the time its in the shop its a done deal for him. Likewise, if I stumble upon a poor fellow (NOT a thief) with a fair deal in hand I would not mind giving him more than the pawn shop would (before their markup, which I would have to pay there anyway). Maybe even give him $20 more than he asks just because I can and no paperwork.

I carry my S&W model 696 in .44 special more than all of my other handguns combined. Not small or light but offers a certain comfort level not attained by the others.
