I have not read the other post but I just wonder why you care what one of the most ANTI- GUN, anti personal rights Presidents we have had.
He and his Attorny General have said you may have the right to own a gun but there is nothing about owning ammunition.  I think you need to be carefull of what you bring ot his attention as he will be attacking freedom on his way out of office.
All I can say about him is from all the Econ classes I have taken, he either is the dumbest person on earth, actually I take that back the moron that now wants the nutrition information on the Front of the packages is the dumbest, but he is either running a close second or wants to ruin the economy and the way of life in the US like Marx wrote of, to comment on what you wrote or think?
You would get a better answer from the presidents dog than him.

I agree with WHAT you've said, BUT, it is off topic.

Only because it was politely said, will I not delete it (not name calling etc.)  DD may not be as tolerant as I and the post MAY disappear.

Let's exercise self restraint and keep this thread strictly out of politics  (there is a forum for that)  and keep the emotional level cool (as it is the nature of coolness of head and speach that is part and parcel to THIS forum.

Correct me if I'm wrong (Lance), but I think the discusting thing is to Lance (and a number of us) is the bickering, bitching, and degrading of others.

I personally have found in life about 4 people that can separate themselves emotionally from the issues and discuss political issues from the broader perspectives.  (BUT, now I'm getting off topic.)

Suggest using PM's or inviting by PM others to the forums suitable for discussion of politics.

THANKS, one and all for your courtesy, patience and discipline.

Well, i grew up with a keen interest in history and firearms, weapons big and small, museums, etc. And i find it hard to believe that as a kid, President Obama didn't study history books or go to a museum, or see a cannon in a park, play with a cap pistol, shoot a BB gun, watch western movies, shoot a real gun, go target shooting, go hunting, etc. Are there really people like that? Maybe i should leave President Obama alone, it might embarrass him.

Lance, that is exactly the problem, an awful lot of people have never done any of that stuff.

SO, take the chance.

Write a hand-written letter, saying exactly what you've just said!

It is that willingness to share one's personal life and experiences with another that builds relationships.

(It goes without saying that a LOT of THAT is needed in today's climate.)

(Yes, as DD said, there are a LOT of folks out there that would feel VERY out of place at a gun show.)

I'll write him a hand written letter, and it will be what i, as you say, just said.  Note to self, don't forget to add the question about favorite cannon and/or mortar.

Lantica type is my vote (the malaysian cannon type) . big funny looking muzzles and crude .

Good grief did you see that opening pitch at the baseball field ?

The guy did not grow up in the states (fact) , so he never learned to throw a baseball .

My great , great , great , great , great , grandmother could have thrown a better ball than that , and she never saw a baseball  ;D.

So the malaysian cannon gets my vote . NOW B4 any mods deleat this ... I am sincere , I bet if he ever saw any cannon in his youth . The local made ones would be the favorite .

Anything VOC or Colonists guns would be consided ..... an enemy .

JMHO and I could be wrong ...but I'm not .

we've done it before; but here (although I strongly agree with the humor and accuracy of what was said) the comments were not germain to the topic - AND with this topic we clearly said at the beginning (and a few times inbetween) that this forum/topic is not the place for anything other than the specific question at hand.

Not an easy thing, as the feelings about the Pres run deep.  Easy to let slip a comment that could start a fire.

Just a reminder...

This is the black powder cannon and mortar board for the discussion of cannons and mortar meeting the definition of antiques.

We have no rule prohibiting discussions of religion or politics in this forum. If you discuss religion or politics here and it doesn't relate to  cannons then it is off topic and will be either moved to the appropriate forum or deleted.

Lance's post is not about religion and not about Politics.  He is pondering what kind of cannon the President might like and why. A perfectly innocuous question.  There is no question in there about do you like the president or his policy's.  So go ahead discuss what kind of cannon the President or any president might like, not the Presidents politics

GBO has forums for religion and Politics and that's where those discussions go, not here.   Since this is not the religion or politics board as per the GBO Terms of Use we will not tolerate Personal Attacks.   Personal Attacks, here in this forum, even of the President  are considered unacceptable. If you wish express your displeasure with president or his policys, don't do it here.

If you can not accept that,  do not post in this topic.

It is quite possible he has never touched a gun... even a cap pistol.... his school records are sealed so we don't know what sports he participated in
he had no military service, Hawaii has restrictive gun laws,he did not have a father in the house for a good part of his life and it is the fathers in this country who teach their children about guns and safe use....   so it is a safe assumption he is not part of the gun culture.
As to other sports we know he doesn't bowl, he watches football & base ball & has talked about playing basket ball.... His life has been spent
as an activist & in the ivory halls and in politics, I am doubting he has ever given much thought to cannon's or mortars.
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

I have seen broadcast video or film purporting to show Obama fast breaking down the court in high school.

I don't know how long it will take for President Obama to get my letter, tried to keep it short, but ended up with three pages. Then it will take a while for him to reply, so i can't say just how long this contest will last, but Y'ALL can keep guessing until then.

I'll keep my $.02 cents to myself about which cannon Obama might like, if any, but, I'm thinking I'll go tomorrow and do some practice shots at the gravel pit! Never know just how long this hobby will be around, and the weather is finally being nice, so....I'm for going out and playing! BoomLover

Let's hope it will be and then we were still allowed to own Black powder artillary.
and not, see the cannons on the ship.  My friend Damian had about 20 of them.  Then this guy wrote the president and asked what cannon from history he liked and then as he left office he outlawed them for 100 years by exucitive order.  It was neat to see the cannon at the Revolution, War of 1812, Civil war reinactments and at the Football games at Valley Forge Millitary Academy when the Corp scored.
